The 3DS has been fully hacked

I've been involved with the 3DS scene for about a year now, and tbh Smea's exploit isn't anything grounbreaking or all that interesting. It's userland execution on the arm11 core with access to a few extra syscalls by hijacking system modules. There's literally dozens of games that could be used to leverage this sort of control over the console.

The vulnerabilities in 4.5 FW that Gateway/SKY leverage result in control of the arm9 core. The arm9 is the dominant processor which handles most of the low level interaction. If you can pwn the arm9, you own the console. You can reboot into cfw and do whatever you want at that point.

afaik Smea didn't want to do anything with arm9 since it can cause piracy. Not that Gateway does already...

What everyone wants is region free.

 

I think there's a leaked CFW of 4.0/4.5 that lets you play backup's from SD unless I'm misinformed

 

Just installed NINJHAX and it was super easy. I think that in a few months, some good homebrew will be starting to come out, but to be honest, I just want good emulators, that let you play in 3D.

 

No, it's more than likely that he simply doesn't have enough to pwn the arm9 himself. It's too bad he burned the sysmodule hijacking on this.

His hack is Open-source if think you could get higher privlages

 

I spent a lot of time reversing the arm9 this summer and ended up with a few bugs, but not enough to wrestle control from it. I'm hoping to look back at it some more over winter break.

Nice, yeah gateway's multirom on the latest fw likely uses an arm9 0day. Odds are it leverages the same sysmodule hijacking stuff on the arm11 side to make the calls they need to the arm9. I'm looking forward to going through and seeing what kind of bugs they found

Far more impressive than smea's work, and likely what they used to pull out the 7.x encryption keys a few months back.

It'd be great to hear what you could find out. In the preview they showed the Gateway running on the N3DS, and they had the DEVMEN on there. Is that leaked or something? As I heard about if that's on the system, there's no need for gateway. That is coming from someone who doesn't know anything about it though (for example... me ).

 

A very early version of a GBA emulator has been released today. The future of the 3DS hacking scene seems promising!

 

Whilst Gateway are taking their time releasing the new 9xx support, various different card brands are appearing. But the one that grabbed my attention was Supercard Dstwo plus (Dstwo+).

 

I hope the 3DS is as homebrew friendly as the wii because street fighter 2 on the go who wouldn't want that but i also like the 3Ds to be homebrew friendly because the Gameboy and the cartridges don't always seem in top condition so I might need a back up on my 3DS but have it as easy as using my SD card and downloading files on my pc not going out on ebay and ordering a device I also hope there is a hack for a capture card because buying a special capture card 3DS seems unnecessary for me I mean what if you didn't know about the 3ds capture card then you're stuck just buying another one idk if its differen't on the normal 3ds but its a problem on the 3ds XL I can't wait till wii U hacking begins but I'm also unhappy because the more people find these hacks they can put a virus on these consoles because the more a console is like a computer the more the system runs its programs and handles things such as viruses and if you're a suspect of these viruses you know how horrible windows handles viruses and you have to end up saving your crap on a flash drive and restarting the whole thing which is very unnecessary anyway this post has been getting off topic so i like the 3ds hacking find more hacks and open up hacking for wii U bye
