I got my Gateway one day before Christmas. Let's hope they release the update when new year comes.

Looking into this Sky3ds cart is only £55. May have to buy one, has anyone owned a Sky cart before ?

 

They seem to be decent, but considering the limitations (although I swear I heard that someone hacked it to allow you to manually change which ten games are allowed, albeit still with the ten game limitation), I wouldn't bother. Gateway support is slow, and I've never really liked Gateway, but right now, it seems like the best choice. Hopefully they hurry up and release their firmware update, because I'm holding off on updating my 3DS beyond 9.2.0-20 and my 3DS keeps asking me to update, which is annoying. I assume you can run 9.4 on emuNAND now, but I don't know for sure. Regardless, I'm sick of waiting on updating my 3DS, but I know that if I do, it'll be a hell of a lot longer before I get my region-free exploit.

I guess it also depends on what you want to do. I'm not sure if Sky3DS lets you enable system-wide region-free and emuNAND like Gateway does, but if so and you're still wanting to just buy games (as you probably should), then it might be a decent alternative.

I just ordered me a K3DS which is supposedly a clone of Sky3DS BUT without the 10 rom limit so this means I can always add new roms to it without buying another Flash Cart.

 

Yeah don't go the SKY3DS route, you'll be fucked in the ass later.

Gateway Beta is great so far, apart from the browser exploit which is crap if you're not near a wifi connection. However everything works as it should at the moment. Sadly there's no N3DS support yet

 

You do know that the new revision of the Sky3ds doesn't have the game limit ? K3DS is a ''illegal'' clone of the Sky3DS. On the Sky3DS website they said they already cut supply to K3DS.
Of all the clone carts, Sky3DS is the most likely to continue to receive support.

I just tested the new downgrade feature, It's the best thing ever ! No need to use the browser exploit anymore.

 

Thought the downgrade wasn't possible on 9.0+ at the moment?

Ah yeah I just noticed. Too bad the EUR DG has the annoying update notification. Don't really want to format my SYSNAND and loose my eShop games.

 

The problem with downgrading is saves on your retail carts will no longer work, which is a massive downside for me! However I can see why people would for the convenience factor.

I'm personally staying on 9.2, i imagine things will only get better and be developed more, given its unlikely the New 3DS XL will be able to be downgraded. We will likley have a custom firmware in the future based on a newer version of the 3DS system software.

Until then i'm happy enough to stay on 9.2, even if i don't have Wi-Fi i can just teather to my phone and run the exploit if i really need to.

 

Oh really? No one has said that at all since I've been researching. Now that would be no good for me. I still play retail.

 

Gateway mode is using the old 4.5 encryption for saves, where as Classic Mode is using the newer firmware e.g. 9.2 which has the newer encryption, meaning you can still play your retail games and save using the classic mode (or simply just from the sysand)

However if you downgrade you cant do either rendering your saves useless at this point.

Thanks InsaneNutter. I've thought about just staying on 9.2 at the moment, the Gateway DG was decrypted not so long ago. Something might come of this very soon.

 

Wasn't aware they removed the limit, oh well next time I know.

 

So im have applied the EMUNAND and my FW version now reads as 'GW3D 9.4.0-21E' am i able to connect to the eShop and redownload my games?

 

I downgraded my zelda 3ds xl to 4.2 and emunand'd to 9.4, glad to finally be able to use my xl instead of my og 3ds

 

I wonder, when will a stable and worthwile CFW be released ?
