    thanks for the responses.

i got it a few years ago 2 maybe 3 from a chain games shop that did retro stuff at the time but no longer does (due to being bought out). and i think this was before there was a dump of it on the net though i think the only dump version is in an asian language. don't really know though as i dont really bother with roms, and didnt have the net at the time.

i've always wondered about its journey before my possession, and having found this forum and thread thought it was time to try and find out some info. though know there would never be anything concrete due to how this kind of thing is created and distributed.

Squirrel King for MegaDrive is great. :)

I believe the developer also made at least one Gamate game.

Who here got ripped off lots of money because this guy vanished? Because he's been selling lots of pirates on eBay under the name ps3gouken. It's obvious it's him because he's in Argentina and is specifically dealing in pirate games. Also, wheela has told me that devilredeemed once sent him tons of covers for pirate games. If you take a look at this guys auctions, you'll notice that a lot of his pirate games clearly have copied cover inserts that he made. The horrible contrast in the pics gives it away. Not a coincidence that this same guy would be making more copies of them in order to appear to be selling the games "complete."

I also was told by someone else that they bought a Squirrel King from him and it came in a TecToy box. If this isn't proof enough that he's screwing people, I don't know what is.

I encourage anyone that got screwed by this guy to confront him on eBay. He's already ripped off a lot of collectors on eBay, some people have bought from him numerous times. Hundreds of dollars. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with this again.

On that note, if anyone still has access to boxed Genesis pirates I might be interested. Getting harder for me to find them, even with a contact in Taiwan.

Come on, Bramsworth. do you know how many people in Argentina sell pirate games? Probably just as many as people selling legit stuff. Also a lot of pirate games come with shitty faded or poor quality print no matter where they are from. I have pirates from China, japan, Brazil, Argentina and Russia. All of which are a mixed bag of print quality and cartridge molding.

I don't know how many people where ripped - off but I received everything I ordered from him plus extras. In fact I must have received 4 or 5 free games. he also exchanged a faulty game for another without me sending the faulty game back.

You could be absolutely right. I still just can't see it any other way though. I'm still pretty certain that he's just photocopying copies he has already. Of course I can be wrong.

I still say it's suspicious, and I feel like it could be him. If I'm wrong though, I'm wrong.

Bramsworth - as I said in PMs with you I didn't know if that Ebay seller was DR. I know there is another Argentine pirate seller that DR knows and tbh I think it might be that person.

Yakumo - Well consider yourself very lucky. As I pointed out in numerous threads back at the time he was taking NEW orders and completing some (most?) of them despite having MANY orders, some of which were 6+ months outstanding, orders on which he had not bothered to contact people for many months either. That's what really wound me up. Especially as I and many others cut him a load of slack due to his personal problems.

But then he comes back, apologises, explains his situation, promises to make things right, takes new orders etc. But what is an apology worth if he doesn't actually do anything about it? He said sorry at that point, but did he bother to contact me or many others? No he did not, he instead looked to get more orders! So how could he make those old orders right when he didn't even have the balls to contact those persons concerned? Even a 2 line courtesy email to say sorry, I'll sort it etc. But I and many other heard nothing while he happily sold more games.

It was at that point I lost my fucking rag with him big time (my order was £500 or so, lots of very rare pirate titles, not the usual crap he was selling as I'd already bought all of that!). Suddenly he has time to reply to my emails. I have many emails from DR apologising and admitting he was a fucking piece of shit cuntbag thief. I eventually got my last order from him (some 20 odd games, although 1-2 are still outstanding) only after being very patient for 6 months, and paying for shipping again which I was happy to do. Even then it took me a few days of pleading with him for him to agree to me sending him the shipping costs again. He was saying I shouldn't have to pay those again, it was up to him, he would sort it. Blah, blah, blah, I'd heard it all before. I was more than happy to pay shipping costs again, take the hit on a couple of titles, just to get the majority of my order.

As for people he still owes money too, well I can only say what I know, which is he still owes a friend of mine (who I introduced to him as a favour to both parties to make a bit of cash selling pirates) over £1000. Not small change. I also recall that numerous other people came out of the woodwork at the time claiming he owed them games.

Now of course that's not a rant at you Yakumo, or anyone for that matter who bought games once DR had returned. Buyers weren't to know he was taking the piss on previous orders. Nor is it to deny that DR did do a lot of very succesful pirate deals. A LOT! I had been buying pirates off him for the year prior to his disappearance / reappearance BS.

But seeing as this issue has been bumped up again I feel it's best to get the story across. I can of course back up everything I write above with emails, posts, many being that fucker's own words etc.

As for the cover issue - meh, who really cares. Even 'original' inserts, as Yakumo says, vary vastly in quality. They are pirate carts after all and even back when they were new you could find different inserts for the same game. Sure, I disagree on people creating new custom inserts now (you know who you are, and so do I!), but fuck it, it's just another part of the BS to be careful of when dealing with pirate carts and greedy twats (over and above the relentless pervasive greed that is hitting this hobby harder and harder each day).

I thought he had sorted out all of his debts but it looks like I was wrong.

By the way, I make custom covers but never claim that they are originals  I even posted a work in progress in another thread.

I know. You're one of the good guys! Iirc you did a nice custom SMW insert too. Certainly better than the 'original' ones I have!

Edit / PS as I didn't address one of your points Bramsworth.

All the inserts he sent me were either to go with games he had sent in that order (boxes seems to be a big issue in Argentina, ie there aren't many for these pirate md games) or were other ones of interest he had picked up in the stores (he claimed). These other ones were for interesting looking titles that he hadn't been able to find a cart for (Double Dragon Special, Fatal Fury vs Double Dragon etc), but nabbed the inserts and sent them to me as freebies (as we both had a passion for MD pirates and wanted to track them all down!). DR reckoned that many places basically kept the carts out on display, as cart only items, and then would have a large bundle of inserts under the counter that you could try and match up if you like / if the shop could be asked to find them etc. On the odd occasion the store could chuck in a box too, but I think he dried up boxes quite early on with his hunt. Certainly all the inserts we talked about, that he sent in that one order, appear 'original' to my eyes.

Although that of course doesn't mean the ebay seller ones are, but I've not bothered to look.

What and incredible list and cool pics. I know there are a bunch of brazilian pirate carts for the Genesis/Mega Drive. It's neat to see ones for other systems as well.

Horrible story. Yeah, what he did was just unforgivable. I don't see how it was even a question of you paying for shipping again, he should have just sent them out since you had already paid. Lost logic on his part? :s

Well, you can just call me a purist, but even when it comes to pirates I'm pretty strict about collecting the "originals" as opposed to reprints of any sort. Of course with pirates that's a much harder thing to determine.

I did make a mistake of pretty much just assuming here that this eBay guy is DR and that's all there is to it. I just somehow grew to not see it any other way. Especially with how this guy took the money and ran, seeing all those what I judge to be "fakes" from this ps3gouken guy just raised my suspicion since I had never seen anyone from Argentina selling pirates before him. Anyways your story about the covers clears him more I suppose. I don't know, call me nuts but I just still have a feeling it's him... :p Guess there's no way to ever tell for sure.

Anyways wheela it seems you in the end did actually mass a pretty hefty collection from DR. You really ought to post pics of your whole pirate collection someday, might be interesting to gawk at ;)

Well I wanted to pay shipping again so I could just get my stuff! The issue on that was he didn't want more cash from me, and said he would sort it (and that that could take a couple of months for him to get the cash together). So to be fair to him he didn't ask for the shipping costs again. Rather I insisted I pay it so he could just ship what he had. I simply could not be bothered with more months of hassle.

In a way I was quite lucky. As the titles he had for me in that order were the most uncommon ones he could get (often the only copies he had found) he would go on pirate hunts, buy these uncommon ones, tell me what he had and then I would buy what I wanted. So at least I knew he had most of them in his hands. Unlike say the common pirates he offered for sale openly which he could pick up (or not!) any time, where he would take cash first before buying them.

The Ebay seller could still be him. DR did have an Ebay account when he first started selling pirates, I'll need to check what it was, something like 'gamingpirate' or 'vgpirate'. Tbh though I do doubt it is him, I just can't see he would be so organised to have managed to get the feedback that account has. DR always had pc / internet issues. I'll check with my friend, he might know more. He was on good terms with another pirate seller who knew DR and the three of them would do deals with each other, or assist each other with money transfers etc.

Sure, originals are always best. But for some titles it is so hard to find them it's untrue. The two decent fighting games for example..I've never seen an original for sale. Even the copies I have (not counting that repro I bought from you) are not originals. They're first generation copies I guess and are the same as virtually all copies you would find now. But they still are not originals as made in China, HK, wherever. This post has piccies of the two I mean http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=253679&postcount=32. (My pirate set is 5x that now! ;) )

Why would he even go to the (alleged) trouble of making fake pirate covers? (o_O)? Unless his stock/supplier is crap, most items should come complete. At least the stuff I sell does.

Those two games are Shui Hu Fenf Yun Zhuan and Yang Family Warrior. I've seen original copies of them before. I even sold an original completely mint copy of Yang once. Shui Hu though I've only seen twice. Very rare, I only hope I come across it eventually again.

Still waiting for a pic of your whole pirate collection :D Sounds like a treasure trove of rare stuff. I can't imagine what all these most uncommon titles you mentioned are.
