Without getting into a debate over US policy or interventions I don't think if it ever got to that point it would be anything like Iraq or Afghanistan. Two of the major problems that affect those situations, The language barrier and lack of understanding into the culture would not be near as significant as over there. The third major problem of interference by third parties (like Iran and Pakistan) would also be greatly minimized. Finally the natural resentment that comes with having a massive foreign presence would also be diminished since it would be unnecessary to base such a large amount of troops at one time as they could simply cross the border as needed.

I think though for it to reach that point there would have to be a much greater spillage of violence over the boarder which the cartels have wisely tried to avoid so far.

Too bad for her. If you are trying to screw with a government I suggest you don't use a service that is under their jurisdiction. She also has clear connections to Wikileaks and Assange so there is a legitimate reason for the subpoena.

 

Yeah, but it does not justify their actions. It is just the usual bullshit from their side. Even though she is an Icelandic parliament member, which just shows the disrespect the US government has any country allied or not.
And so fucking what , if she has connections to Assange and wikileaks. The last time I checked then Iceland was a sovereign nation, but US gives a high and mighty fuck all to that. Hmm USA the new DDR ?

 

Why doesn't it justify their action? The article itself says that she was directly involved in leaking stolen materials.

"Jonsdottir was involved in WikiLeaks' release last year of a video which showed a US military helicopter shooting two Reuters reporters in Iraq. US authorities believe the video was leaked by Private Bradley Manning."

That clearly puts her into the scope of the investigation.

As for her claiming privilege, Doesn't strike it a bit hypocritical to you that she claims privilege since she is an MP while at the same time ignoring the privilege that comes with diplomatic cables. Never mind the hypocrisy that her privacy is to be protected while others should be ignored. Then again that seems to be the mindset of many involved with Wikileaks.

Finally this has nothing to do with the sovereignty of Iceland. This is about the US government subpoenaing information from a US company. They are not as far as I know trying to get official documents from Iceland. If she was stupid enough to use Twitter for government business then that is her mistake and on her.

 

A.Snow, you do have a point there, but if it was not for wikileaks. Then some of the stories we have heard the last year and so on would just have been claimed as hearsay and rumours.

Will rather be honest, and say this. I have nothing against any country or person from any where in the world, as long they can behave. Since I know if I shout out "Fuck USA !" then I will get attacked, but if I show the flaws of my own country, and the other country. Then it is easier to digest. But basically every body knows, or should know. That too much power corrupts, and that is what is going on over there, and I can sadly only see it rolling downhill and very fast. And it seems to me, that what the most powerful beings touches, will first prosper , but then die and whither , in the time afterwards. But okay, maybe I am too deep in my philosophical so-called ramblings at times. But hey, at least I know about it
