Shadow Temple in OoT. i finally got over the creepyness and beat it shortly after i turned 20. i first attempted it when i was 13. it still creeps me out a bit though probably would have gotten over it much earlier but alas. i didn't own it until i was 17
Resident Evil on Playstation by far scared me the most. I played it when I was 6 and I turned off the game when you first see a zombie. Now when I play it I just laugh at the voice acting. Hehe. Master of Unlocking.
1st games that made me jump. was in my late teens by then Doom pc, random monsters that catch you off guard AVP jaguar, random aliens squealing in your face when you turn a corner or hearing a predator taught you with random whispers kings field psx, watching a friend play and a damn skeleton jumps out of a chest resident evil psx, that dog damn jumping through the window, other parts of RE made my GF, her mom and me jump at the same time lol. Silent hill 1,2 psx+p2, those games had me on edge most of the time.
I started gaming YOUNG, really young. Born in mid 88, NES recieved Christmas 1990. When I was about 3, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PNKWX4F7UE << the castle level scared me.
DOOM: it was already scary, but my cousin made it worst with a pair of IO-glasses... Yeah me too, it was really awesome when you had to go into space to release the meteor and those lurkers would try to ambush you, but all you can hear are stomps and clarke's screams. Needless to say I became really handy at shooting babies with that game, which is why I'm not allowed at nurseries anymore:dance:
Everyone needs to play Dead Space. I'm crossing my fingers for the 2nd one. I really hope it's just as good.
Yup, this one. Why the fuck did I find it so DAMN scary back in the day? It still gave me the creeps today, even if it looks so innocent...
Indeed. Excluding the stupid asteroid shooting mini-game, it's absolutely fantastic. I don't like how it's one of those games that has joined the trend of using music to tell you whether or not there are enemies nearby... Though, I heard a lot of people say they just counter remedied that by turning off the music volume for the game (something I might do when I evt. get around to replaying it)
That's funny. I played it 2 1/2 times and never noticed that the music does that. If I play it now though, I'll notice it right away. The only problem I had with Dead Space is that I played it right before I played Resident Evil 5. RE5 was so dumb, boring, and not fun compared to Dead Space. The whole time I played it, I was comparing it to Dead Space which was a mistake. I'm sure if I would have played it before putting a ton of time into Dead Space, I would have had a much more enjoyable experience.
Yeah kinda, but the frenetic space walk with the meteors that could tear you appart was by far one of the coolest moments in gaming for me. That and the ending, FUCKING. EPIC. The music was intended to build tension and make you believe you were there. It really helps the experience IMO
I thought the ending got a little daft, save for the little "FUCK YOU" fright right at the very end. You're right that the ambient score was great though, I can't really understand why anyone would want to turn it off. In general the audio design for that game was fantastic, it's one of the best examples of atmospheric sound in a survival horror game as far as I'm concerned. It does do that "hey a monster's coming DUN DUN DUNNN" thing a lot of the time, but there are plenty of cases where it just dumps something nasty on you without warning, and either way I'm usually glad for a bit of warning so it didn't bother me at all. It's really obvious that sound design was included at all stages in the development, with consideration to gameplay, and not just stapled on at the end. Not sure what the hate for RE5 is all about, I've had more fun with that game than anything else on the 360 (Dead Space included). Loved it from start to finish, replayed it a bunch of times in co-op with a mate. The new DLC that came out yesterday is great too.
Aparently RE2 on N64 freaked my father out a bit because he made us return it. HAHA It did make me jump. some parts in the beginning of Doom 3 made me go "oh, fucking hell..." but I guess that wasn't that long ago.
The original AvP (PC not Jag). Playing as a marine the sound of the motion tracker would just put me constantly on edge. Elevator or Alien? Elevator or Alien? Oh it's just the Eleva....SWEET JESUS!
Resident Evil 1 and 2 on psx, but it really goes back to Dawn of the Dead, i was 7 or 8 when i watched it and ever since have been running away from zombies in my dreams. RE only made it worse but i don't mind...
