Indeed. Dreamcast lack of distinct content hurts. It already consisted of many arcade ports while alive, only to have several of its own former exclusives become ported.

I wish there had been a Dreamcast port of Monkey Ball. The DC easily could have pulled it off. Super Monkey Ball was great, but Monkey Ball had its own charm.

That's what really attracted me to Saturn to begin with, the arcade ports. Even so Daytona was rushed I still love it, and same with Fighting Vipers.

An EGM Buyer's guide stated "Owning a Saturn will be like owning your own arcade" If that didn't sell you on it in 1994 what would?

When I first got my Saturn it came with the Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtua Cop bundle. Needless to say, after all of that arcade goodness, I was hooked.

Most of my friends at the time that did get a Saturn ended up ditching them, relegating them to their closets to sit in the dark to collect dust, because most of them honestly saw it as a flop. The fact that I loved the system so much absolutely puzzled them to no end. They were all playing N64 and I was still playing mostly Genesis and Saturn at the time, so I was definitely the odd one in the bunch. I honestly never understood why so many disliked it. I understand that it had a short life in North America, plus many of the games you had to import, but it was some of the best gaming I had in my youth. Which is why I was so excited for 9/9/99 for the Dreamcast, which didn't disappoint. Much like the Saturn, many of its finest games were imports, and to this day the indie scene releases are also imports (Gunlord, Fast Striker, Last Hope, the upcoming Sturmwind, etc), but it still had a huge catalog in North America for its short time on the market. It's a shame both of these consoles didn't live long enough to reach their full potential.

Back in the day EB used to sell Saturn Imports. Near the end of it's life.

Personally I like both Saturn and Dreamcast. Even thought Dreamcast was without doubt a much better console than Saturn and more popular in the west market, my love for Saturn is bigger not only from nostalgia aspect but also because it was one of the "unloved children" in gaming industry that deserved more love but was overshadowed by Playstation and N64. Just like with TurboGrafx-16 which was a great console but it was overshadowed by SNES and Mega Drives for the reasons we all know.

Now as about internet's love of Dreamcast over Saturn...I guess it has to do with the fact that it was the last, successful console produced by Sega before entering the third party industry.

Sega made some terrible decisions over the years, but every single console they put out was awesome in its own way. dreamcast was way ahead of its time with online gaming, if it was released a few years later with network interface and dvd drive rather then 56kmodem and cd/gd-rom as default i think it would have done alot better

I must've missed that. :( But I do remember them having Virtual Boy imports. I think I bought Bomberman and something else.

I've seen Xmen VS Street Fighter and Samurai Spirits IV back in the day. I think X-men VS Street Fighter Single handedly mainstreamed importing.

Are you serious? Most people never had access to a $400 Saturn back in the day, a Dreamcast at $199 was much easier to obtain, and not to mention the better graphics, homebrew, emulators and just being a more robust system.

I think it sounds like you are just trolling.

I have a Saturn and a Dreamcast, and love them for different reasons... :rolleyes-new:

They sold some DC imports, too. I bought Shenmue II (PAL version) from EB Games.

I think the Dreamcast was a far better machine than Saturn, it was everything the Saturn should have been and more. The console was graphically leaps over the competition until its death only Sony's in house games on PS2 could touch it at the time, the games were super playable and often far more in depth than Saturn games even the arcade ports.

The Dreamcast was almost a figure of culture, a console for the year 2K, Saturn was how I imagine Sega wanted the Mega CD to be. Don't get me wrong I own all Sega machines but for me with its sleek hardware, four controller slots, VMU interaction, arcade perfect ports, diverse back catalogue and it still being supported today; Dreamcast runs rings around Saturn (sorry, awful pun!)

Sonic Adventure was NOT launched with the DC in Japan, there was a demo, I remember because some guys who imported the DC had that, not the full game which IIRC came out in late December 98

As to DC and Saturn I think hype was the problem: the Saturn came out after the massive fuckup that was the 32X, it needed to be great but as many already said it was off to a bad start

The DC was great, a much better launch and great games even after being canned, but too little too late, and the fact that it got canned was a self-fulfilling prophecy
