The buck stops here with me as well. It's just like the iPad. I could get an x86 tablet clone which runs Linux, Windows, everything, or I could get an iPad which runs whatever they (AT&T and Apple) tell me I should run. And they charge me for the privilege too!
Can you install the kotoba app in non-japanese iphones? Is there a version for other OSes? Whats funny is that the ipad costs like $200 to make, yet everyone goes "ohh so cheap!" since its $500 and because the first iphone sold for $600. They dont realise the cost of apple's lock on media, akin to consoles, for which the hardware itself should be sold at cost if you consider how much apple will make with apps, songs, books and shit... But whats even worst is that upcoming android tablets will cost roughly the same, which sucks since the OS is free, and most have lower specs than the ipad (like a regular LCD instead of IPS). The only one worth a shot is the samsung one, which packs the guts of the galaxy S except for the OLED screen. All X86 tablets are half-assed, dont even bother...
So O2 and Orange have revealed the pricing for tariffs and how much you actually have to pay for the phone on pay monthly as well. Apparently Orange is the cheaper option and has unlimited internet. Thinking of changing to Orange from O2 but never had them before. Anyone on here use them?
There's "MyKotoba" on Android but at the moment it only translates between Japanese and Chinese. Google Maps is on everything, so I don't see the sales pitch for the iPhone in that regard. I even have it on my Windows Mobile phone. Going to see the Galaxy S on the weekend in the phone shop, 18 months, £35 a month, phone is free. You have to go to £35/m for 24 months at least to get the iPhone 4 for free over here, otherwise it's £200+ for the 16GB model.
Handa... learned that one when I modded my original Xbox years ago. Hahah. The other app is atually "Dairijin", for those interested. Got ahead of myself. I'm not an Apple whore either. They do plenty of things very poorly: iTunes being at the top fo the list. Finder being second. Their retarded single-mouse button bullshit on laptops. The list goes on. OSX is still built on Linux though, which I use 95% of my computing time, so when I need something else, it's my Macbook pro. I would assume so. Mac stuff really doesn't have E-version and J-version. It's all multi-lingual out of the box. The provider lock is the only thing unique. It wasn't when I got my iPhone though. Being able to unlock and use abroad is also huge for me. Saves me a couple hundred bucks each trip I make. Having a dedicated hacking community (and knowing it will be there for subsequent upgrades) adds tons of value.
This is all based on the U.S markets demands. In the U.S. the iphone was so popular that the amount data being used was exceeding what ATT could actually handle. So to prevent the issue of too much data being used over the network they thought it would be best to disable use of video conferencing over the 3g network. Reason an old japanese phone can handle video confrencing over a network is japan is alot smaller then the U.S. so japanese service can easily handle it compared to American service. Though the iphone 4 pre-order has been a disaster. I really think apple has to seek other mobile partners if they want to be a full success and take down androids market.
Not really, not everyone wants an iPhone. You lot enjoy your "folders" innovation on IOS4, I am getting my Samsung Galaxy S tomorrow.
Quick question. It seems this way but is apple giving away iOS4 for free (for touch)? One of the things that really piss me off is in the past when OS3 came out, if I wanted to update my touch I would have to pay for it (**** u apple) so I never did but now I barely can use my Touch anymore since most of the software forces OS3. So checking into OS4 right now I noticed there is no mention of price and installing itunes and plugging in my touch, it offered to dl the latest update with no mention of having to purchase it.
Well, It looks like iOS4 is free. I didn't have to pay for it. Thanks to that, I just blew $6 on 6 EA games thanks to a 48 hour sale (NFS Shift, SimCity, Tiger Woods, Fifa10, Red Alert, Game of Life). =)
Does anyone know any information on the next iPod Touch? Me and my siste rboth want one, but I figure that since the new Iphone has a higher screen resolution, that the new iPod Touch will probably follow suit. It makes sense; so that apps can be used on either platform.
I'm waiting on the Touch4 too: all the cool stuff from the iphone (and ipad!) without the need of say.........a new mortgage
There was about 1000 people lined up to get their iphone4 today in Harajuku. Mine should be ready on the weekend.
I updated to OS4 yesterday and it bricked my 3Gs! I had to erase everything from it and startfrom scratch. Getting the apps back wasn't a problem but my contacts list is gone
