Okay, I've taken another crack at this by doing away with the QSBs and moving the blue wire as suggested. Still can't get XELL to boot! Getting about ready to boot this thing off a cliff. I very briefly got it to go somewhere though:
    CR4 Selected
    Version: 10
    Power Up
    Waiting for POST to change
Post 04 - BOOT SEQUENCE STARTING
    Post 06 - ....
    Post 2E - LOAD XAM
    Post 7E

    Post 3F

    Post 33

    Shutdown
    CR4 Selected
    Version: 10
    Power Up
    Waiting for POST to change
    Post 20 - ...
    Shutdown

For some reason, it now only gets to post 20. It still doesn't automatically turn on when I start a rater test, I need to manually turn it on. It does automatically switch off when I stop the test.

    Here's the install:

hi FireAza , soldering looks quite good i think its time to give in and ask for help over at Team Xecuter forums. They can be a little harsh sometimes but they are really good at fixing problems so don't be discouraged.

also don't give up on this project when you get it going it's mind blowing

    best of luck

That would be your best bet at this point, there's still some good mods and vip's over there, just link this thread and fill in the support template. Best of luck.

I am totally not a pro in rgh modding.
But There is a good chance its the route of the wires.

Can you make one picture over viewing the back part of the motherboard? So that its visible how all the wires are going :)

Is the diode grounding with the metal casing, when put together?

I haven't put it back in it's shell yet, still trying to get it to work first.

Okay, I've tried moving the blue wire to where you marked, but it still not only won't boot XELL, but it still won't post at all in rater. It'll be just my luck that I've got a dud CR4 that was never going to work anyway and has killed two systems. At this point, I'm about ready to just ask someone to send me a pre-modded system.

*EDIT* I'd been advised to flash the stock NAND image back and remove the CR4 from the console to see if it will even boot the original dash. And it does! Simply flashing back the stock NAND didn't get it to boot, but removing the CR4 did.

that's good news you can boot the original Dash , im not sure if your going to give it another go or go down the buy pre-modded route but i have done 3 successful installs on my Jasper 360's ( i have more to go though ).

Some time ago i studied Youtube video's and Tutorials online and made my own guide , if you would like it send me a PM. I should say ive only used it on Jaspers so it may need some tweaking , but you can still learn from it and help you with your 360.

Okay, it's been a number of months, so here's the latest. I've come to the conclusion that I don't have the time or patience to troubleshoot this thing. Is the chip a dud? Who knows? Is there an issue with my wiring? Who knows? Is there some unknown compatibility issue with Japanese Xbox 360s? Who knows? All I know is I haven't touched this thing in months and I can't conjure up the motivation to start over again only for it to still not be resolved.

So here's the new plan: buy a unopened 360 with an old system version and JTAG it instead of trying to RJAG a 360 with a newer system version. No need to screw around with reset glitching, QSBs and modchips, simple install and guaranteed instant booting.

I've watched a video guide on how to JTAG and it appears to be exactly the same process as what I've already been though on this system.

That is, wire the JRUNNER wires to the appropriate solder points, bridge the appropriate solder points and add a diode and wire bridge. Dump the NAND in JRUNNER, create XELL RELOADED, flash to NAND, get CPU key, create custom NAND image, flash to NAND.

To this end, I'm looking to pick up an Arcade unit. This should mean the system will be old enough to be JTAG-able but new enough that it will be using either a Falcon or Jasper mainboard.

I'd also love the GUI to look like the classic Blades GUI the system used prior to the NXE update. I know that you can use custom skins with a modded 360 and that there's one that looks like the old Blades GUI, but can the system be made to boot straight to this skin? And if so, does this require modification of the NAND image before I flash it? Also, what about the boot animation? Can I use the classic animation instead of the newer one?

hi Aza , thats a good plan........ if you can't find a 360 that can be J-TAGGED , you may want to try buying a pre-modded console or as i did about 6 days ago try a RGH 1.2 with a clone Coolrunner Rev C. I got 10 chips for $7.60 AUS each including shipping , i get instant boots it took about 5-6 hours to get up and running.

below is a video i watched and a wiring guide , i also updated my self written guide for RGH 1.2.

That's pretty cool there's a slightly cheaper alternative for non-JTAG-able systems! I think I'll still aim for a JTAG though, less fiddly and no need to rely on chips and glitches to make it work.

Speaking of which, I've just now discovered the systems that used the Jasper and Falcon mainboards are more than I knew. I just found out the Premium systems also have them, I was under the impression that the Premiums were phased out after the introduction of the Arcade systems were released. So it seems like I don't necessarily need to get an Arcade unit in order to get an older system that has a Jasper or Falcon mainboard.

The question is, how new can I go before I end up with a system that has comes with a dashboard higher than 2.0.7371.0 (the last JTAG-able dashboard as I understand it)? For example, I'm looking at a Lost Planet 2 Premium pack. Amazon claims this bundle came out in 2010, but the aforementioned dashboard update came out in 2009, didn't it? Is this system no good in that case?

*EDIT* I found someone who was selling the same bundle, the sticker on this console says it was made on the 26th of June, so it looks like the whole purpose of special edition packs is to dump older model systems! It's probably. Reasonable guess that any Lost Planet 2 bundle will come with a system with a similar date of manufacture, but with the release date of the 2.0.7371.0 dashboard being April 2nd, does his mean the Lost Planet 2 bundles are no good? Does Microsoft install the very latest dash on a system once it's been manufactured?

*EDIT* Okay! I've found a Premium system bundle that not only was released in 2008, but also came in Falcon and Jasper flavors. This was the last one in stock, so I figured by this point in 2016, the older Falcons must have been sold through by now, so I ordered it! It arrived just now and sure enough, it's a Jasper! Boot it up and behold! The old Blades dashboard! Checked the dashboard version and it's well below the minimum dashboard for JTAG. Huzzah! Should just be a matter of starting the JTAG process now!

To make your dash look like the blades after a jtag, there is a few things you can do. First, you can install freestyle 3, set up dashlaunch to boot to it, and apply a blades skin. Then, you can use dashlaunch to apply the old bootup. Good luck on the jtag, although you probably won't need it because jtags are so easy to do.

JTAG's all done! Worked first time, a nice change from the headaches I was having with R-JTAG! Thanks for all your support over this absurdly long period, guys!!

Had a bit of a problem when the console didn't boot up after putting it back together. The problem was the guide I was following to do a clean install for the ring of light board wire said to run the wire from the bottom of the board around the edge of the board to the solder point. Of course, this results in the wire getting crushed and the console not booting.

But you know what's an even better location for this wire? THE UNDERSIDE OF THE THROUGH-HOLE POINT! Seriously, I'm not even a genius at electronics and even I knew the solution was simply to work out which solder point on the underside is connected to the desired point on the topside. Got the system all working now!

Yeah, I found a Blades style skin for Freestyledash 3! It looks almost perfect, but it doesn't have the classic boot animation. There's actually two of them, the standard stock boot animation and some lame one that comes with the skin. If you could disable the stock one and replace the lame one (it uses the stock sound, so it would fit) with the original animation, it would work! There's a few extra options (temps, weather etc) that I'd like to get rid of. Any suggestions?

I've also been able to get some XBLA games installed, finally able to play the Scott Pilgrim game! The game works fine, but there's no cover art, in both the stock MS dash and freestyle. How can I fix this? Also speaking of XBLA, is there a simple way of installing any updates a game might have? Or do I need to manually download them and copy them to a USB drive?

Yeah, it was the same thing that I'd already done before, save for the wire going to the ring of light board, so I already had prior experience :p

I can see by both what's on your TV and console itself that you're rather fond of 360 modding :p Speaking of which, I've found you can use a custom boot animation with some software called FakeAnim, but this requires you to load the software at boot. Add on the fact it's not stored on the flash NAND like the stock splash animation the time for the stock splash to play beforehand, and this really increases your boot time. But I was thinking, what's to stop you from simply replacing the stock animation on the NAND with a custom one? I know you can delete it, but why can't you just replace it?
