You think gaming is less fun because of fanboys & rumors... Yet the fact it has tons of horrible features like mandatory kinect is something that people should just put up with if they like games? Why don't you just put up with the fact that people will be fanboys for any piece of equipment, something that doesn't matter at all? :very_drunk:

Don't know why so many people have got sand in their vaginas over the reveal. At least they actually revealed the console, whereas Sony wasted time showing some big budget multiplatform titles, social connectivity and barely demo-quality motion games. As for the actual design of the console, I don't mind it - it would look out of place in any decent AV setup, whereas the mockups of the PS4 based on the teaser video look like something Alienware would design. They did overemphasise the TV connectivity, but the fact that it has it isn't a negative one. As for EA Sports and COD, they're going to be multiplatform, so nobody cares, although they did announce some Xbox-exclusive features.

So far I'd place Microsoft ahead, but I guess by the end of E3 both companies will have released a confirmed design, price and line-up.

Yes, yes it is. Aside from the fact that every non-gaming feature that they put into a gaming console takes away development resources from the gaming side of things, it is simply a matter of people not wanting it and probably not being able to use it. The cable providers do not want you to be able to use your own equipment, as they make too much money on the rental fees and they want absolute total control over your experience.

The sad thing is you still need a cable box! All it seems to be is an HDMI passthrough, which you can get on a GoogleTV device. Heck, you could hook up a PS4 through it probably!

This, all the way. They are using probably a lot of resources on the console to do all this extra crap no one really wants. We got our old systems, TVs and phones for everything the Xbox already does. They haven't revolutionized a single thing besides how much DRM they can add. It's not a system for gamers, it's a system for people who don't already own a Blue-Ray player, a music player, a phone, or something else already out on the market. The reason why people bought the PS3 and Xbox 360 is because we were unable to have those kinds of systems in our household at that price. Now you can better specs than consoles for a little bit more easily that will last longer.

I don't see the point in this generation of systems. All they did was kick us in the nuts.

Am I the only one that realizes that although the Wii U will be weaker in terms of performance compared to these two giants, it proves that Nintendo still respects its gamers. I mean BC and playable used games were good choices by Nintendo. I honestly cant see Sony being the good guy here. I imagine they'll do the same as Microsoft...Its sad that the 3DS and Wii U can play previous gen games while the PSV and PS4 want you to repurchase digitally, the games you already purchased last gen

Nintendo are the ones who built this industry, they know how to respect their consumers. Microsoft only makes us pay more and more money for the same crap Nintendo does free. Nintendo does what Microdon't.

If Nintendo truly cared about gamers, they'd release something other than recycled stuff or minigame crap on Wii U. Let me repost the list of lost Nintendo IPs and exclusives from the GC era (the last truly good Nintendo console in my book): Eternal Darkness, Rogue Squadron, Geist, Baten Kaitos, F-Zero, the "Capcom five", Conker, as well probably some others I've forgotten too, and they've got barely any new, interesting IPs or exclusives to replace them. They also went and fucked up the Metroid series too.

I doubt the guys working on it would otherwise be making games, rather just working on other aspects of the OS. It's too early to tell if it'll be any good, as they didn't really touch on any features other than voice command and some ESPN gadgets, but I agree that there's the risk that there will be limited support for it from TV providers. I can see this being limited to Sky in the UK, but if there was support for Freeview (almost universal digital terrestrial TV) then I could maybe see myself using it.

I finally figured it out the Windows rule has now hit the Xbox. The Windows Rule goes that two solid versions of the OS will release before they fuck it up.
Example, Windows 2000 and XP, then we got Vista. Windows 95 and 98, then we got Windows ME.

See XBOX One is Windows ME and Windows Vista, in XBOX form.

That comparison makes no sense because 2000 came out before ME, and also because if you include 2000, you should probably include NT 4.0, which came out between 95 and 98, and was made for professional use like 2000 was.

Yeah but you see what I was getting at, there's usually a few good versions of windows before a horrible horrible failure.

Well we'll see what Nintendo has to offer soon. I personally don't think they ruined the Metroid series. The story may have been lame but the gameplay in Metroid other M was fun and nostalgic and Nintendo always grabs you with the nostalgia factor. Don't know about you but the wii has plenty of hidden gems in its catalogue that sadly never got a chance to shine because everyone was bashing it for its motion control gaming. Not to mention that they bring out the best of the best in their virtual console catalogue. Games I thought would never make it to VC actually made it and it pleases me to know they haven't forgotten about those genesis, snes, n64, tg-16, gems that we all know and love

Metroid Other M was Nintendo trying to branch out the metroid series with a big japanese developer and it just didn't work out. Remember how hyped everyone was for Other M when it was announced?

Anyways Nintendo is back in it after the microsoft show. Their Wii U console has always been about games first (even though theres so few right now) and after E3 there should be plenty coming for Wii U. Also EA reversed themselves on Wii U development after the microsoft show. This gen will probably be about PS 4 and Wii U.

The atmosphere in Metroid games has always been about isolation and exploration, and Nintendo ruined that by putting lameass dialog and cutscenes into the games, which really started with Metroid Fusion and only got worse with Metroid Prime 3 (which I overall liked despite everything) and the unbearable Other M. MP1 really nailed it as far as modern Metroid games go, and the subsequent ones just got worse and worse. I'm over pointless nostalgia pandering in games.

Yeah, I guess, if you really care about overpriced emulated ROMs.

That's the whole problem Nintendo has had with their consoles since the N64: the good games are always "coming", while in the present day there's usually only a handful of games worth playing. At least before the Wii era you could say that the handful of games was extremely good, but Nintendo really stagnated this gen thanks to lucking out with the motion control fad, and they didn't make that many games on the Wii with actual play value.

The original XBox was and is fantastic. I think it's better than the 360 (I have both), and is even better modded, as the emulators and game ports, and XBMC, are fantastic. My XBox 1 (as in original XBox, not the ridiculously names XBox One) doesn't just play some great XBox games, but is also my emulator machine, running (easy to use) emulators for many machines, such as NES/SNES/Megadrive (Genesis)/ZX Spectrum/C64/Amstard CPC/arcade (via MAME and Final Burn Alpha)/etc. All in one convenient box, and all driven by the joypad. Yes, a modern PC is *much* more powerful and can be easily made to output to TV and be joypad driven (by XPad), and my PC is connected to my TV, but the XBox 1 is just more convenient for that job.

That said, as a loyal XBox fan (to me, Microsoft made my favourite consoles of the last two generations) I have to echo almost everyone else, and say that I am very displeased with the XBox One. From the stupid name, to it's multimedia/kinnect focus (none of which interest me at all), to the fact that we saw more or less nothing of any real gaming interest in the XBox One's introduction, the whole thing was (to me) amazingly wide of the mark of what I wanted to hear for a next generation console. I want the XBox One (or PS4, I love the PS3 and PS2 too) to be about games and with nothing else to distract from that.I don't know which console(s) I'll buy in the next generation, as I never buy a console until it has games that I just have to have. But from what I've seen of the XBox One so far, unless the console, when it's finally released, is very different from what we've heard so far, then it's unlikely I'll be buying the XBox One, unless it has great games that I have to have, and I can't play them on the PS4 or PC.

One thing I don't agree with the critics about, though, is the look of the XBox One. I agree that it does look ugly, but I don't personally care what a console looks like, as to me it's just a box that sits near/under the TV, so to me the criticism of the XBox One's appearance is irrelevant.
