Ok here is a story from my childhood if only i could go back in time 18 years ! i was in a second hand thift store i was 9 years old there was a box full of old toys and games one of the games had a blue handle on it .................... and thats all i remember i would give anything to have that day back ! i am 100% certain it was Atari 2600 Air Raid after i saw a picture of air raid i saw the handle and was like wtf >,<
I once had a rather full bladder (too much beer) and other stuff to carry around so I decided not to buy that Mai Shiranui edition of the Neo Geo Stick 2 for about 35USD. Three years later I paid a little over 100USD for the MOTW version. EDIT: MOTW version came with the game too.
PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP dev hardware due to either its price, shipping cost or both... or no shipping to my country
now that i recall, a friend of mine who has an electronic workshop (mostly tv and consoles, mostly PS2 now), one day caught my attention an Playstation box, was on pile of dead PSX, this box caught my atention because it said "Video CD" he probably tossed away years ago, some days ago i told him about that psx, he's a collector, much more than i am, he can't believe he had one of those
Was at a Toys R Us when someone walked out of the back with 9-12 brand new GameGears for about $20 a pop. I was too young to even think of making a move on this treasure. Probably not my worst but one of the more memorable apparently. Another time when I was a wee lad in the 7th grade a guy I had to do a project with invited me to his house to finish it up. His family must've been fairly well off considering they lived in Yountville, CA (any wine aficionados should know that name) and had a 40s era jukebox in their living room. In the garage they sported a few cases of Coca-Cola he claimed were of the variety that still had cocaine in them which I didn't and still wouldn't doubt judging by the bottle type and the cases they were in. In the garage I had spotted a Vectrex they apparently didn't play anymore, about a week later he offered to me and all I had to do was come get it. Something felt fishy so I didn't. Next year he wanted me to hold onto a backpack worth of CDs at school. Later I found out they were stolen and he was suspended for it. Probably dodged more than a few bullets there.
This is a bit of an unbelievable story and one I'll never know the true answer to, but... I was on holiday in Palma Nova, Majorca, Spain in the late nineties, I was only young and didn't have a lot of money to spend, but I was in a bootleg shop on the beach strip one day that sold CDs and games and stuff and right there among the Playststion games was a white disc envelope with the title Biohazard 2 written on the front. Looking at the back of the envelope I was shocked to find that instead of images of Resident Evil 2 there were none other than images of Biohazard 1.5. I asked my mother to buy the game, I told her why we should get it, but mothers being mothers she didn't care and said no, leaving the disc for someone else to buy. What was on that disc? The final game? One of the know bootleg betas? Of the real prototype? We'll never know. My suspicion is that it was likely beta 2, a build which is known to have existed on various bootleg discs, it's likely images were just copied from magazines with the bootleggers not knowing the true nature of the game, after all bootleggers want to make money, not sell a quality product. But that is absolutely my greatest missed opportunity, even to pass up one of the known beta 2 discs is one to kick your self in the butt about, even if you didn't truely understand the implications at the time.
Are you serious? It was just regular RE 2 with 99.999% certainty. This would hardly be the first time a pirate game has images just copied from a magazine without any attention paid to whether they were actually from the final game. That actually happens often with retail games too.
Damn i just saw the video ! looks amazing for a old xbox game does a playable version actually exist ??
The thing to note is that this was in post Resident Evil 2 realease, it was either summer of 1998 or summer of 1999 when I was in Spain, most likely the latter. If bootleggers took the final game and made copies out of it, why would they label the game Biohazard 2 (NTSC-J) instead of Resident Evil 2 (PAL) which is closer to their region and a more accessible language for the Spanish speaking locals (I.e English, French, German, etc)? And why would they take images from magazines instead of the back of the most likely already pirated box sleeve? This was in a time when Internet was still 56k and acquiring pirated copies of games wasn't quite as simple and accessible as it is today. That's not to say it was anything special, but if I could go back in time and buy that thing for £5 which is roughly the price it was going for, I would do it in a heart beat, you never know what might have been contained on that disc, not likely 1.5 but beta 2 is a possibility given what's already known about the history of those discs (I.e they came from bootlegs).
A buddy of mine back at my previous residence had a Dreamcast with 12 games and 3 controllers as well as a PS2 with 15 games and 2 controllers. He wanted $40 for the lot but I only got the Dreamcast lot for $25. Should have gotten the PS2 as well. This was back in 2007. The games were nothing special but the whole thing sure was a deal compared to eBay deals.
Holiday in Paris, France in 2003 with parents. We where going out of town to visit a monument, that part was quite hazy, I was at that ignorant age where I would rather spend most of my time playing my gameboy advance than pay any attention to the trip. However the next part I recall very well, we where walking past a game shop near the train station in the centre of this town. I'd left my wallet at the hotel we where staying at, and sods law... lo and behold what was in the window. And get this for 30 Euros... Panzer Dragoon Saga. No shit. I was gobsmacked. And I had exactly 30 euros in my wallet back at the hotel. Now heres the worst part, I thought to myself, oh I know, on the way back from the visit to go to the train, I'll ask my Mum for the 30 euros and I'd pay her back at the hotel. Walking back the shop had closed, and Panzer Dragoon Saga was not in the window. I was so livid. I'd missed a gem at such a low price, obviously before inflation and internet prices have hiked PDS value far up.
Recca for Famicom for $120. Had an opportunity for a boxed copy for $400. ....now a lose one goes for $400.
It's not VG related, but I went to a rummage sale a while back- saw a stack of maybe 20-30 HD PVRs. FOR $2 EACH. I picked up 2, went home, saw that they're a good $200 or so. Nearly cried because of the cash I could've made off that.
