Dating in Japan: the reality.

The only stereotype I'm aware of is the one that all Japanese women want a big gaijin boyfriend. This is of course, the polar opposite of reality in most cases.

I don't really have any plans on realising said dream, as I'm quite happy with my girlfriend, but I do have a question that I have been curious about since I heard the Japanese are more racist than the average in the western world. Is there a difference in dating a white or a black guy among Japanese women? Are both equally accepted? What about white/black women and Jap men?

 

No. There's definitely ranks amongst gaijin... black people are generally at the low end of the totem pole. There are of course, Japanese girls that really dig black guys (I know a few) but in terms of Japanese racists in general, white is king. (King of the dipshits, but still).

 

I cheated and ended up marrying a half Japanese who was heavily westernised. :rock.

Definitely. I've only lived my life as one type, but my image of the non-native English speaking foreigners is that they all somewhat equally fight for scraps. I've met plenty of people from all parts of the world in the professional world of course. If we're talking about dating though, I guess you just gotta find your nitche. I know a chick that's into Eurotrash.

I guess the only benifit you have if your Asian is, that no one knows you are forign until you open your mouth and try to speak Japanese.

Do Japanese have rankings for "most liked" country too? I bring it up because someone I met previously said he always identifies himself as "Canadian" when he travels. He said its because identifying yourself as a US citizen isn't always the best idea (Leaves it open ended for the imagination )

Not really the case. Some Chinese & Koreans can blend in to an extent, but quite a few are quite obviously not Japanese. Foreign born & raised Japanese, "stealth gaijin", stick out like sore thumbs in most cases. The people that should really be worried about being racially profiled is the Japanese-born Koreans & Chinese. They have no other place to call home, speak no other language, know nothing other than Japan, but are still given restrictions. Makes life a turd in this day and age, especially considering the advances in industries such as toilets this country has made.

I knew a couple of guys that were in two of the low-ranking groups... (well, former military and neither white) that used to clean up. Just imagine them as good closers... it's not like the stuff just walked up to them and pulled their pants down. But they also weren't going to places that didn't cater to gaijin.
