Unless something unmentionable happens he's not going to just stop making these anytime soon. Also RetroGate = KRIKzz. Its his store. I am not sure if you knew this or not.
Its always going to be cheaper to do it yourself... as no one is going to do it for free. Also, china is also going to be cheaper than domestic - all their costs are cheaper. At SBH we have some smaller runs done before, not sure on prices but I don't recall it being overly expensive. I will ask the guy who handled it. It may have been futurlec? seems to come to mind.. (link: http://www.futurlec.com/BoardAssembly.shtml) I guess it boils down to - sell more than he can make right now (demand is clearly out stripping supply), but make less per unit due to additional costs. Or sell less, but make more profit per unit. If you feel the numbers will make up the extra expense, it may be worth it. Also there is the fact he will have more free time to work on software or additional products - rather than hand building boards. As I said, I hand built 100 boards for a project and I wouldnt want to do it regularly.
I realised that when Krikzz actually replied to my query on the site. I will continue to check daily to see if stock is available.
I've got last week my ED64 and I'm just impressed about this genious hardware, many thanks. I own also a Z64 but the ED64 is my new favorite. One Question, can anybody test the NES game Castlevania III? I've tested several roms but no one of them were working. Thanks
what about looking into " Crowed Funding " also? like " kickstarter " http://www.kickstarter.com/ there has been many projects funded through them like a simple plastic mount for the iphone that raised over 100,000 USD the ever drive project could easily raise that much funding given how most retailers are back ordered 3-4 weeks month in month out
The Nes emulator probably does not emulate complex mappers like MMC5, you may want to try Akumajo densetsu (same game but japanese version + VRC6 but I doubt it will work). This emulator is probably okay for games up to MMC3.
VRC6 is the mapper the game uses. If an emulator doesn't support it, the game doesn't work. MMC5 is the mapper the US and European versions use. The NES emulator for N64 probably isn't very good. If you want to play NES games on an old console try IMBNES for Playstation 1. It actually is reasonably good. Or maybe try Nester for DreamCast.
Actually VRC6 is an MMC that produces advanced audio it can supply up to 3 extra audio channels sadly here in america we never got a system that utilizes advanced audio.
I'm not sure how this contradicts my statement? All I said was true too. Really I can't believe how interested people are in this NES emulator for N64. I can't imagine it performs very well or has great compatibility.
GoldenEye:X v4 was released today at www.goldeneyevault.com , which is ED64 compatible, so all you lucky ED64 owners get playing!
Same reason I have several zip drives in a closet: novelty. And because I do data recovery work when called for.
The last couple of times I used the ED64 I didn't see that mysterious rebooting problem at all. Hopefully it has gone away for good. However, it looks as though the $0.99 used third-party controller pak that I picked up at a local used game shop is crap and won't hold a save for more than a couple of hours. My Nintendo branded controller paks are all in storage I *think* I read that a future update will allow the ED64 to do something with controller paks, but I wasn't clear if that meant that it would emulate the pak, allowing games to save directly to SD Card, or if it meant that you could copy saves to and from the SD card using the ED64 menu. Can someone clarify?
Maybe what they want to emulate isn't so much the NES, but the whole "virtual console" experience. But, you're right, it's a little weird.
I won't emulate the pack, I am not sure if that's even possible. However if you have a memory pack it would be able to load and save from the SD card to the memory pack.
ED64 cannot save memory pak data directly to the SD card. It would be possible to allow for rewriting the memory pak when loading a game and saving the memory pak data when returning to the menu or power cycling. This would work best with a RAM based memory pak. According to some sources the Nintendo brand Memory Paks are 32KB SRAM battery backed. If the battery in your memory pak is dead then you will need to replace it.
This is just what I am getting from a few comments Igor has said. I don't even know if he's even tried getting this to work yet, I think he has been busy trying to get FRAM working.
im actually not interested in the nes emulator in the least its a nice feature but not why i bought this device im much more interested in fram compatibility
