Only tried the menu so far (not running any games), but that works perfectly on a PAL machine now Great work
Hmmm.. interesting... with the latest FlashRAM firmware at least, if you boot the ED64 with it plugged into a GameShark, it'll put the gameshark into a flashing mode, and flash new firmware onto the gameshark and make the GameShark unable to boot. Also, for whatever reason Perfect Dark (I checked 1.0 and 1.1 from GoodN64) will not detect the expansion pack when run off of the everdrive, though the original cart works just fine. Also, Turok 3 finds the expansion pack just fine. Again, this is under FW 1.11. EDIT: After looking at it more, it seems like if I run Turok 3 first, which finds the expansion pack, then Perfect Dark will as well.
looks like flashram works not in all carts by some magical reason, so i should work bit more over this thing. my brain will blow
I have no problem with perfect dark. Both 1.0 and 1.1 boot and detect the expansion pak without having to boot another game first. I have the 1.11 firmware/OS and it's running on an NTSC N64.
I'm in the UK and still waiting, in the 6th week now. I guess mine is one of the 40 day hold-up ones :crying:
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I can't figure out how to update the firmware on the ED64. I have the built-in USB option, but I can't find any instructions. I figured out from the device string "FT24R USB FIFO" where to get USB drivers. I downloaded a couple of different programmers and found one called "FT_PROG" that recognizes the device, but it wants files named .rom to update, and while file extensions are pretty arbitrary, I figured there might be a reason that the firmware updates were named differently. So, does anyone have instructions for updating via the built-in USB?
You cannot update the firmware over the usb connector. You have to use a USB-Blaster to update the firmware.
You need an USB Blaster and the Quartus Software from Altera to update. Connect to the Active Serial Port on the cart. Krikzz actually made a youtube video that shows it all in great detail and should be easy to follow.
I saw the video but I figured it was for units without built-in USB. If I have to get a USB blaster to update firmware, what the hell was the point of the USB port on the device?
Woo mine arrived this morning. very excited to try it out later. Thanks Krikzz I better grab a USB Blaster too sometime to make use of new firmwares in the future. Is this the right thing? I know its in china but its cheap http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Alte...530?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a65225f02
Do you know if any other JTAG programmer will work with the Quartus software? I have a Xilinx Platform USB 1 & 2 cables.
Does it matter which "USB Blaster" I get as long as it's "Altera"? For instance would this one work? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-BLASTER...ltDomain_0&hash=item336856c508#ht_4047wt_1398
