I wonder the same thing. Why waste the time and resources on yet another Gameboy rehash that could better be spent on games for the DS, GC and Revolution? I mean, is the current GBA SP too large for them or something?
Yeah, but the DS is certainly lacking in the games dept lately. Sure, lots on the horizon, but right now the store shelves look mighty bleak!
Well, the PSOne and PSTwo didn't really infringe too heavily on the usability of the hardware though. It wasn't any tougher to see the games because the console was smaller. Although the lack of HDD support in the PSTwo pissed me off, it's not like they ever even used the HDD much, which just pisses me off MORE, lol.
exactly what i said to my brother, eheh. i think it looks sexy, and retro, like a nes pad or something, i just hope the screen isn't too small and that it reads gb/gbc cartriges. i might get one, it would be the first gameboy (apart of the original that i found in a basket) that i buy, but i'm not decided yet....hhmmm...Micro? SP? or even DS?
In the official Gameboy Micro thread, Hawanja posted a very good analysis of the possible selling point for the system. I know I'll pick one up, especially if the price is cheap, just because they look REALLY cool. As far as the Revolution goes, I really sortof like the design, actually. Consoles don't need to be all bells and whistles on the outside to provide quality entertainment (Except the Supergrafx, which is awesome.) Plus, I really like the way the vertical stand forces the console to sit at an angle, it goes a long way towards just making it look different, but not ridiculously so. But please Nintendo, PLEASE - DON'T DO WIRELESS BY DEFAULT FOR YOUR CONTROLLERS!!! PLEASE!
I wonder why people arent bitching about the fact that you have to buy addons to watch dvds and other things... When they did about the xbox. Seems alot of people bitched about the xbox and even about the 360 but havent taken those arguments and used them on PS3 and Revolution. Seems it does have control ports after all btw. Though i think its a terrible position!
Where does it say you have to buy DVD playback addons? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just haven't read it yet...
Same gamecube controller port, same memory card port, smart but unexciting design. Probably has the same video out port style that nintendo has used since super famicom.
It's a bad design. It looks very prone to falling over anyway, one tug from the controller and it would topple. Either it's not final or Nintendo really don't want you using corded controllers...
"9:18 am: Iwata takes the stage. Introduces Revolution. Holds up the tiny, Mac Mini-sized unit. Crowd cheers. Says it's the smallest console Nintendo has ever manufactured. Says the final machine will be even smaller than the concept unit he's holding. Can stand horizontally or vertically. Revolution will play 12cm (DVD) discs (and GameCube software, too). Added attachment can be used to play movies and other DVD content. Machine has 512 MB of onboard flash memory for data storage." http://cube.ign.com/articles/615/615089p1.html
Ugh! I agree. You figure they'd think this through a little more, but alas, that's not the case. Oh well, so much for a sleek design!
Problem with add-ons is that the original intended sleek design will begin to suffer. The GC itself is rather simple in design, but start adding in Wavebird adapters and memory cards and suddenly the thing takes on a rather tacky appearance with all sorts of protruding plastic parts and so forth.
Good point no more wavebird on this console.... Not that you would want to but you just couldnt based on this design.
Why do you assume that the internal wireless gubbins is unable to use the Wavebird? @SuperGrafX: I agree with you that addons wouldn't look good on Revolution. Maybe the DVD thing's no more than a wireless remote, plugs into the backplate or plugs discreetly into a controller port. It's fucking shitty that it needs additional hardware anyway, what the hell were they thinking? It's got a DVD drive, it's more than powerful enough to decode DVDs without additional hardware, just stick a tiny bit of firmware on there and you're done. It's not like anyone's going to pay much for DVD playback functionality anyway, it's a strange move and hopefully one that won't make it to retail. Honestly, with PS3 able to play back everything under the sun you'd think Nintendo would want to at least be able to play DVD's out of the box :smt083
DVD playback requires paying licensing fee to the DVD board or whatever it's called. $20 or something along those lines. Just cutting back on costs.
Well it might be able to i guess but i was guessing they would have to use some sort of new tech for this amazing revolution that seems to be left for the controler to fill... I sure hope what we heard aint the revolution... cos i had that back when i had my 300mhz pc. People seem ok with it now! Another one of these its not microsoft so its ok.
