OoT was like nothing before it. The sense of space and roaming was unmatched and the pace was awesome - it really sucked the player inside the game. I cannot say the same for TP for example - nowhere near it, and quite to the boring side I might add.
Dunno, it didnt impress me as much as WW did. Like, I'm no sailor but I do have some experience using small boats, and WW captures a lot of the experience, like the huge vastity of the sea. But I agree on TP, it was a disappointment.
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/grandtheftauto4 GTA4 is getting such widespread love because it's an amazing next gen game, not just a small improvement. At it's core, this stuff couldn't be done last generation, unlike the new shiny FPS's that only look better. This has the giant living city, various pedestrian AI, the new next gen physics engines that no other game has yet, etc. There was an article explaining all the work they did just on the audio for the game, and how different the pedestrians will be in this game for a change. This game will take on much more than the linear top shelf graphical games like CoD4, gears of war, and bioshock, so of course it has some room to look a little less in the graphics department than those, as long as the whole visual package is amazing. As for console comparisons, it's getting to the point where games are rightfully running almost identical on both. Stuff like this, burnout paradise, and Cod4 are almost indistinguishable unless you're looking for it..which means the common person won't care. It also has the potential to bring down Live again, and the ps3's free network hasn't been tested for stress yet, like Live was for Halo 3. It could have bumps too.
I'll need to try it out before I buy. I thought the other GTA's were entertaining, but got old fast. I liked Crackdown's approach more, since I could pick up cars and stuff. It'll probably be fun. However, GTA has always seemed like a dumbass magnet to me, so I dunno. A lot of games have been getting scores like this lately. I don't think a game should get a 10 if it's going to be forgotten in a few years. That's why I don't agree with the good scores Bioshock and CoD4 have gotten. Bioshock did have one hell of a storyline, but is anyone actually going to want to play through that again? Call Of Duty 4 I played through with a friend. I seriously didn't like it. It was just boring. The multiplayer pissed me off too. I guess I like unrealistic FPS more. Mario Galaxy, I think it deserved most of it's scores, for the most part. Too bad I haven't seen many people play it. Hope it's at least fun though.
The repeating formula and the openeness of the game are my main concern really. The older GTAs bar none, couldnt hook me hence I never completed any of them!
lol! i never finished more than 3 or 4 of the missions in the other ones. it was a driving game for me more than anything! all i did was try and see how many police stars i could get.
I only really VC, GTA3 I left it after being tired of dying every fucking time I falled into water (and in a city full of bridges and water it was too damn often). SA was like an MMORPG, in that instead of actually playing you had to collect dumb items and "EXP", except that I didnt feel like I was a smart guy (like when I'm playing RPGs). Too fucking long, it took me a year to finish 'cause I left it in like august 2005 and then played from where I left back in june 2006. And unlike VC the missions and story sucked really bad. This GTAIV I'm more excited about the online than the missions, mostly becos I've been waiting for an online GTA since the 3rd. I remember we used these hack patchs in LAN parties to play multi in GTAVC. They had lots of errors and didnt work most of the time, but when they did we had a blast: limited as it was, there was a lot of stuff to do compared to other multiplayer games, and it didnt get tired as fast as FPS do.
If you want an online GTA just wait for APB. ;-) I dunno, I'll probably pick this up. I generally don't like the GTA games, but this one looks like its done really well, so maybe it'll be the first "good one" (to me). I loved Crackdown though... having stats and being that ridiculously powerful was awesome. All it really needed was for them to send out more stuff when you "went bad" or whatever, was kinda lame just having the police shooting pea-shooters at you.
I was thinking of getting this one. I didn't read the reviews but perfect 10s everywhere seems a little fishy to me, though. Do they allow you to go into first person view this time? I know you can get a dashboard view in the cars. That would make the game a lot more immersive, imo.
After over 1 hour of play I'm not really feeling it like I did with all the other GTAs but who knows it may grow on me...
Just trying that out now. EDIT: Just had a quick free roam with Dot50Cal, I can see from 5 minutes of gameplay it's going to be amazing EDIT 2: Ohh mai gaud! First game of Cops n Crooks was probably the single best multiplayer experiance I've had. This ranks up with my top 10 memorable gaming moments....wow!
yes... yes... i'm getting excited now... i'm picking up my copy soon... although i won't have time to play it for a couple of days...
Hardly surprised it got an 'industry' perfect 10, playing it on the 360 myself and it defo gets a 10 for sure  "oe gives GTA IV 10/10"
