Republican Space Rangers! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa2Iy34aUhc This is one of the TV programmes on GTA4, so good lol.
I think bungie was asking for it, by ruining the story of the game with dumb militarism all over the place. Like, in Soldier this guy Todd becomes aware of how the military ruined his life, but you never hear shit from MC about all the crap they've done to him.
Seems like I'm going to buy it tomorrow as there is a new shop opening that offers it for only 49 Euro (amazon wants 69, for comparison -_-). That means 2 full days of GTA IV goodness for me... well, I am actually excited! BTW: Are there parachutes again? I want to basejump from the empire state building SOOOO much
I bought GTA IV for ps3.. didn't open it yet. I really didn't enjoy the last one, I'm hoping for some real reviews after a few days before I open my $60.00 game.
I bought the last one for 45 euros... GTA games are actually the only games that I need to have on the day of release (or almost). @assembler I loved GTA SA... have 88% so far. SA is like a compilation of just every US clichee you could ever think of, bound together with wonderful gameplay & -ideas. Its unbeaten to watch the desert's sundawn... purple sky, get a plane and listen to some oldstyle rock... may I ask what you didn't like about the game?
they said there was goign to be a expansion thing for this that would give hours of game play and it just came out
Actually I find most GTA games really repetitive, but I did do the missions for GTA: SA. Not all of them though. I didn't like the "Gangsta" setting though. I'm not racist, but I'd rather play as Mafia men in orgranized crime, rather than loud and obnoxious territorial children in 20 year old guys bodies with Uzis....you know? Thats how I see "Gangstas" in every color and nationality. GTA4 at least has class in it, so I've heard. I've read others opinions on the game (not fanboys or paid reviewers either) who are pleasantly surprised at how tasteful GTA4's selection of music is, among other things. I'll definitely give it a try once I have some spare money.
Indeed, GTAVC also had great 80s music, but SA while trying to be gangsta had more late 80s rap than anything else, and lets face it rap lyrics from those years sound dumb nowadays (not that current ones are much better).
More ups than downs so far, and it really does feel next gen, but far from creaming my shorts here. I really like the new melee options, but there are enough drawbacks to merit less than a 10. And yeah, it's still just GTA. So, definitely worth buying, but not worth shoplifting.
has anyone heard how GTA is selling so far? i know the projected $400 million number has been thrown around a bunch....
600k copies have been sold on the day of release just in the UK! Its the new best-selling game on the day of release, the old record was held by GTA SA with 500k copies on day X. I know what you mean and I can't stand 20 year old guys bodies with Uzis either... but its not like you couldn't avoid contact with those idiots. At last I was not bothered by them any more when I drove to SF with that Hippie VW
Nearly completed the story now (last mission I think) and I've only completed 69.24% of the game. Really good so far, the decisions it asks you to make....wow. Never have I felt so involved in decided who should live and die as it actually effects the how the story plays out. EDIT: Completed it. Liked the ending I got, felt like I guided the story along and that it wasn't so linear
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/gta-iv-could-be-most-expensive-game-ever-made/ The link says that GTA 4 could be the most expensive game ever made. They put 100 million dollars in it and almost 1000 people worked on it. That's impressive considering that this is a cash cow franchise that would have sold well regardless. And they also delayed it to make it better for both consoles. You'll never see EA do this for one of their games. This game is just so damn deep. I heard the radio talking about the police setting up websites to catch child predators. You can actually go to them in the tw@ internet cafe, and when you leave, you have a 4 star wanted level.
It's not bad, but a perfect 10 out of 10? To each his own, I suppose. I think people get caught up in the idea of GTV IV and that makes everything in the game seem important or better than it really is. I've gone on dates in the game, gone bowling, etc, but after doing it once as a gimmick I really can't imagine myself doing it again. The ability to play a crude bowling or darts game isn't something that I'm really looking for when I buy a new video game, but put it into GTA and the world goes gaga. I've only done a handful of missions but they're pretty much the same...drive from point A to point B, then drive back to point A. You see some people...hold down the left trigger and fire with the right. Get back in the car and leave. GTA Vice City really drew me in but I couldn't really get into SA because it seemed like more of the same with extras added in like working out that has no interest to me. GTV IV seems like it's the same game all over again with better graphics and more gimmicks. Keep in mind that I'm comparing it to a "perfect 10" game, not saying the game overall is bad. At this point I just can't really imagine ever getting back to that great feeling I had when I was really into GTA Vice City.
I played a little more GTV IV today. I went to the pier at sunrise and the change in color and atmosphere is pretty amazing. I jogged over to the rich neighborhood to snag a high end sports car and the neighbors were working on their lawns. The dead end street that ends at the water had a half dozen people that weren't the when I arrived late at night. Some lady dropped a can on the ground. I was offended she's litter there so I picked it up and threw it at the back of her head....heh. I grabbed a sports car...a Buick Grand National rip-off (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1987_Buick_Grand_National.jpg). They really did their homework on that one. The Grand National was a regular Buick sedan in the 80s that they put a massive engine into and sold it as a sports model. You really have to be a fan of muscle cars to know what that is. I turned on the rock station and sped away listening to "Magic Man." heh There are some glitches in gameplay, like entering the right car when there are several around still doesn't always work right. Niko did a 180 and ran to another car about 10 meters away instead of getting in the one right in front of him. And the Jamaican made me wait about 10 seconds while he tried to run through my car's open door. A very slight bump from a passing car (or even walking in to the side of a car) often makes Niko randomly fall to the ground which is kind of annoying, too. I was sprinting away from someone when I got a call and since the A button sprints and answers the phone I ended up taking a call right in the middle of the chase...heh. And does anyone else notice how the camera is slow to follow your car when you turn the corner? Instead of the camera turning to keep the view from behind, you actually see your car make the turn so you're looking at the side of it. The camera eventually swings around, but not nearly fast enough for you to know if you're turned into the path of an oncoming car or not. Same with 180s....the camera shows you the front of the car after you've spun around which is pretty crappy when you are turning around over the center of a divided highway and don't know if cars are coming right at you. Now I use both thumbsticks when I turn to keep the camera facing the right way. On a side note, I got mine new from Hong Kong for $55 which includes shipping. It's all in English and it will play on my Japanese 360.
I watched the sunrise from the top of the Empire State Building. The clearness of the sky and breadth of sight is just amazing. I could see up to Battery Park, Staten Island, Brooklyn (I refuse to accept those custom names), everything was clear as ice. One by one the lights vanished and the city has been covered in a nice orange light. Lovely... I actually enjoy those accidents, they make the game much more realistic. In the predecessors you were just lying flat on the ground all in a sudden or the cars stopped pretty promptly. The other (GTA-)day, I wanted to go drinking with Roman so I ran blindly onto the street... as a consequence I got hit with full speed by a truck, flew about 100 meters and was immediately dead (had only ~30% health left). That's maybe a bit annoying, but I love this grade of realism. BTW Who else loves to get drunk? I admire the grade of authenticity they reached, I really find lots of parallels to me when I am drunken... heheh
