From my understanding the way mnemo's device/menu works is very different, so for my menu to work with it, it would have to be practically redone.

Most of the bootROM is copied to RAM after the initial hardware setup when enabling the GDROM drive and doing the ROM checksum (part of it is later replaced with the ip and main binary), the relevant parts like syscalls and boot routines reside in lower memory 8c000100-8c004000 so it's just a matter of modifying some assembly instructions there. The tricky part is keeping them from being overwritten when booting.

This means that in order to use patches, a boot loader is necessary, I think that currently his menu just starts the boot process by jumping to the start of the bootROM.

If someone wants to develop another menu for his device, I guess the best course of action would be to contact mnemo directly for the details.

I just received my USB GDROM board this week and am planning to test out GDEmu tonight. A great feature would be the ability to remove the 00DUMMY.DAT & DUMMY.DAT from inside the data tracks as it's copying the data over to the USB drive. This would save a significant amount of storage while preserving the original file on your source drive.

Read this thread to learn how to do this yourself: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/patching-gdi-images.57271/

This is GDEMU oriented, the option to omit blank regions of the GDI in GDIBuilder might not work with the USB GDROM.

OK, Thanks for the tip. Most appreciated.

I tested the board out and it works great! Though I've seen pictures of a fancy gui for GDMenu and when I load 0.5.1 all I get is a blue text based menu. The menu works great, but it certainly doesn't look like this:

    I must be missing something?

    I'm guessing I'm missing 2 things...

I'm guessing the menu I seek is actually 01/disc.cdi but it's not auto-loading. Is there a way to do this?
When I attempt to load 01/disc.cdi it reboots and proceeds as normal. I get the GDMenu logo on the VMU but only a black screen on the TV. I suspect I may need to update the firmware even though it's a brand new board.

is it possible to implement a patch for games like "San Francisco RUSH 2049 v1.001 NTSC" that reads the region on bios after the boot process?

Make sure the partition is set to primary & not logical.

I also use, MiniTool Partition Wizard

If that fails, contact MNEMO & see if he can help, it could be an hdd initialisation issue.
(He can send you a file that can update that part of the firmware)

Some HDD's & USB pens are just not compatible, you will get the no file error or not formatted to Fat32.

I have one HDD that does the above, it's a 2.5" bus powered HDD, but for some reason it doesn't work with the UGC.

to be clear , if u get the message " no files " from ugc it means the hdd are not compatible ´? ive worries that the ugc it self is maybe malfunctioning , cuz i cant make further test cuz i had the 12v too long on r512 didnt know about that the flash rom will fry/die -.-

I plan to add support for patching games that have region protection and no VGA video mode support, but it's not a high priority for the moment...

Here's a small update to add patches for bootROM v1.004 which fixes the problem reported by landsat. I'm still not entirely sure that some early Japanese VA1 models came with v1.004. His DC does in fact have that version, but at the same time the regional settings in the flashROM are set to PAL and he doesn't remember ever changing anything. So not really sure what's up with it, but there's a few possible scenarios... the only way to know for sure is to take a photo of the motherboard.

    Download
    GDmenu_v0.5.2(14-07-2015).zip

    Changelog:
    - Added region and VGA patches for bootROM v1.004 (possibly present in early NTSC-J VA1 systems).

Thanks for the update. Will it be possible for any future updates please post them in this thread? So all GDEMU stuff are in one place.
