there are a load of patches here, for games but they require CDI or bin files to patch.
    http://consolecopyworld.com/dc/dc_patches.shtml

the PAL to NTSC patches replaces the following string in the 1st_read.bin, they force 60hz
    Code:
    06A0090005A001E403A002E401A003
    with
    Code:
    06A0090005A000E403A000E401A000
We need to workout where the check code is located, so we can just patch it out or change it.

I compaired the PAL & NTSC 1st_read files but there are hundreds of changes :/

    Thank you for your answers.

Also I have read that airflow can be a problem with both gdemu and usb-gdrom, and the power supply may become hot, that we need a resistance of 300 ohms on the power supply, is that fix the heat issue or i still need to let the gdrom on top of usb-gdrom ?
(Sorry for my questions, i'm a little lost on this :p)

    Hi,

I'm having issues using GDEmu with GDMenu, and I think its related to the FW not updating on the GDEmu

does anyone know of a way of confirming the current FW revision thats flashed to the GDEmu?

    thanks

What is the issue? I don't think there is a way to check the fw on the device as far as I know. When mine arrived I just updated to the latest version, making sure the led flashed quickly and then half a second on/off to ensure it worked. Just reflash you're existing version anyway because it wont do no harm

However, you could have issues with the SD card, images used, etc, as there are a number of other things to narrow down first.

My issue is that I cant use the GDMenu , since it never loads anything by the 1st folder (01) , it will load any game/app in there, but no matter what I select, it boots into the 01 folder contents

I'd assumed it had successfully flashed ok to 5.10 , but since mine was one of the 1st batch released I think it came with 5.2 on it, and the "change folder with up/down"
functionality wasnt added until 5.6 , so it makes me think I'm still on 5.2 !

I have tried to update it with 3 different SD cards , (512MB, 16GB, 32GB, cant remember the model of them exactly, they're at home right now)

It does so the quick flashes for 1 second, then the on/off flashing
but since it would appear the only way to know for sure it worked, is to test the newest
feature/fix and see if it works now....

Even if "reporting FW version" support was added to the FW, I wouldnt get it until I managed to update to that !

Does anyone know why , it states that you need to:
    • Move the write protect tab at the side of the card to “Lock” position"
when flashing? does it normally delete the FW file once its completed?

Probably used to check if the device needs to boot into update mode, if it can't write to the SDCard look for "firmware file name" & update.

Sounds like when you select a game to play - the menu is doing a soft reset.
(There was a beta menu that somehow got into circulation that did a soft reset when pressing 'A')
Of course if you have the line reset_goto=1 in your GDEMU.ini - a soft reset will always start back again at folder 1.
So for testing if you have this line in your GDEMU.ini - remove it and see if it is any better.

Ideally though get the latest version of the menu or if you use Madsheep's tools to prepare your card get the latest version of that.
This way you at least you will know that you have the most up to date menu (which many people are using with no issues) and if your problem persists then it's another matter entirely.

It sounds like you have flashed the new firmware successfully - mine flashes exactly as you described and when it's doing the slower LED 'pulses' it means it is flashed.

Hey, for those of you with a gdemu. Is it possible to play the large filesize neogeo roms via AES4ALL at a smoother level? Chui, the emulator author got around the dreamcast's ram limitations for giant neogeo roms with this emulator by frequently spooling data from the gdrom drive and swapping in and out of ram, but it seemed there was a bottleneck in terms of the access speed with the disc drive, and particularly for huge neogeo games (eg: KOF 2003, Samurai Shodown 5) this resulted in lots of choppiness and not really a playable game. I'm wondering if the read speed/file access speed from the GDemu might be significantly faster for these purposes and result in these titles running at more of a playable level on the good old dreamcast.

Not sure if this is the best thread to ask, but is the Rhea menu still being worked on, or was that a no-go?

Will there be an update to the GDEMU Menu program to add fast scrolling of the game list with the analog stick or page up and down with the tigger buttons (the scrolling of the game list is a tad slow when you have like 100 games in the list) and the ability to add CD art to a game (as not all games have artwork)?

Also im having an issue where the game list isnt being updated when i add new games, the game is in its numbered folder when i look on the SD card but when i load it up in the DC its not showing up, why is this??

If the limitation was caused by the laser read speed or having to seek on the disc then yes it should increase performance some. But if the issue really was the data limits via the port or ram speed. It may not improve any.

I want to discuss about one possibility here, ok?

This month I upgraded my PS3 with an 1tb hybrid HDD... I never saw a notebook / laptop HDD before, and I got really surprised how small it is. When I cool down after I upgraded my PS3, I got a epiphany: The GDEmu (and other ODEs) could use this small HDD as storage media, or even use a dual media storage (HDD + SD card). It could be perfect to store all games of a specific system inside the console with no case modification (and put the firmware and temporary games in the SD card in the case of a dual media storage idea)!!

I think a 1tb HDD is enough to store all Dreamcast GD images, or all SegaSaturn CD images. If not, today we already have 2tb HDD available.

I know it's very difficult (to not say "almost impossible") to the GDEmu (and Rhea / Phoebe) get this kind of upgrade... It's just my thoughts, ok?

You can pick a usb gdrom controller (aka ugc) instead of a gdemu if you want to load your games from a hard drive.

    @Sunrider6

I know we could use a USB GD-ROM Controller to access the games from a USB HDD with enough space to hold many games, but the USB HDD must me placed with no proper holder to fix the device, specially if the plan is to put the HDD inside the Dreamcast, instead the external USB option.

The idea to use a notebook / laptop HDD is to connect it directly in the board, with a proper holder. With this, the HDD can be internally fixed, keeping it safe of impacts. I think this way could work better to a permanent storage media, specially if the ODE (GDEmu or USB GD-ROM Controller) could have a way to fix the HDD to the board.

If a ODE for PS2 Slim could be released with such idea, if could be perfect for one of my beloved console. :)

But and about other ODEs, like Rhea/Phoebe? :p
