I didn't necessarily want the 'Linux Kit' that Sony issued, just the parts to use as a Linux system. It all works perfectly well together. I've seen the complete 'official' Linux Kit and they sometimes reach silly prices. I decided to take the cheaper route and it cost a lot less to do it this way! I also have the Network Access disc, just not pictured.

It shows you can spend a fraction of the price and get the same product if you know what to look for.

You provide the warehouse, the funding and transportation and I shall try! ;-)

Actually, I bought a genuine Australian PS2 linux kit as soon as it was released, and it came with exactly this HDD and ethernet adaptor, did not come with a network access disc (one was posted to me a few months later when the PS2 network was launched), and did not come in a printed box (only came as a bunch of parts in an ordinay packing box). Having said that, my keyboard, mouse and VGA cables didn't come in the boxes shown here, they came in sort-of retail packaging.

Thanks for confirmation of that. The mouse & keyboard came from a wholesale place not far from me - total cost £4.00, which is a bargain. Not sure if you have ever tried them on a PC, but frankly it's an excellent keyboard. Nice feel to it.

    Just goes to show eh!

From memory (my US Linux kit 'coffin' is currently packed away under a deep pile of stuff) I concur - my kit was as you describe. Parris' keyboard/cable cartons are the apparent differences.

BTW smf, any IDE HDD with the end connectors in the right places can be used with either HDL, or the linux kit - so you could return your original Sony 40Gb HDD to linux use if desired. There was nothing preloaded on the linux HDD, so linux could go right back on. Can't go back to that pristine unopened static bag state, though - if that's what you meant...

It was, hopefully someone won't turn up with deep pockets who wants a minty fresh one.

My linux kit wasn't that expensive, I bought it brand new just before they started running out. Probably a waste of money as it's unlikely I'll get some time on it now.

Thanks to selling off some spare & faulty units I have managed to get my Naomi set up. I recently purchased this cabinet locally for £100.00. So as some stuff disappears...

Just obtained Gigawing 2 for it, which is one of those 'classic' titles!

A video of Fishermans Bait is on it's way! I hope I'm done with that tomorow (I'm struggling a bit with the sound because I use a seperate recording device for that). I didn't buy the supergun from the ebay auction you mentioned to me, because it actually had a final bid of 37 pounds.:banghead:
I got one directly from Vogatek instead. Might be a bit expensive, but I couldn't wait for the next one to pop up on ebay.

Since I just bought a Triforce, I will pause my hunt for a cheap Naomi (unless a really cheap one turns up)and try to get a I/O board.

That cab is simply beautiful by the way! 100 pounds is really a bargain! I think Naomi Universal/Net City cabs are pretty much the best looking Sega cabs too. Too bad that the chance for me finding a cheap cab here are almost nihil. I would love one of those.

Look forward to the output. Let me know when it is finished. As regards to the Vogatek, at least you have the ability to get something on the screen now! Incidentally, what do you get coming up on the screen with no games cart / GDrom inserted?

Can you post an image of the TriForce you have, plus what BIOS version is it? Strangely, having not known anyone with one suddenly several people have them. I was amazed when I started to take mine apart to see, once again a retail console lurking within. The GC motherboard is there including the memory card ports (all hidden internally).

Yeah, the Universal & Net City both appeal to me. I'm not a Candy Cab fan as they appear to huge! The U & NC are thin (probably take up just as much space), looking very cool and are very compact. Plus they come to bits very easily.

I didn't think I would end up with one either, so don't give up. I only got mine because it was so local.

Managed to track down a complete System 22 PCB & ROM set of 'Rave Racer', which is often considered the best title in the Ridge Racer range from the period.

A better image when it actually arrives and is tested.
