That's the stupidest controller I have ever seen. Even the Phantom Controller looked better than that shit. Hell, even the PS3 controller looks good in comparison. I'm not buying a revolution, especially if it looks like that. It's sad, but the X360 is the only next gen system that even closely resembles a video game system, and even it has its problems (looks like a Dell desktop!). Sometimes you just can't win dammit.
Count two on that. Anyway..it may seem unconfortable tho, what if you have to press the a + c button together?? O_O Is nintendo trying to get a steady cramp on our hands or what? Jokes apart...do you imagine the possibilities that it may get to your developement? Am i wrong or did actually Sony "copy" the 3d stick from N64s controller...i could be wrong on that :/ And now, for some comments on the IGN article - " like a computer mouse would in 3D space" - 3D??? "having your TV understand how it's moving in there" does that mean that you move the character by "moving" the Pad itself?? "Has an expansion port which can be used with different types of controller peripherals" that's the weirdest i ever heard, but again a path to millions of "..reach forward with our virtual hand, pick up the rod, and then dip the hook into the pond and dangle it there." My God. Nintendo is back.
Wow everywhere i look on the internet i seem to deal with simple minded trolls, love how man had written it off before reading what it really is. Expectations, blown away.
Yay!, something is different and innovative! Let's just plain bash it, then continue complaining about the industry rehashing formulaic garbage! I wonder how it plays and I'm not going to say it's horrible until I've tried it. It's more than the PS3 and X360 have brought to the party, anyhow. Edit: And not to be fanboyish or anything - since I'm interested in the other machines as well. It just intrigues me that this thing is so different to everything else.
Revolution controller makes me think of this : http://www.xavix.com/index.htm And now I'm tempted to buy one. Does anyone anywhere actually own a Xavix, though?
The thread got way offtopic and it is expected that the discussion should continue - about the Revolution controller - uninterrupted.
I'm not calling Nintendo Mother Theresa either. I did stop buying their products for a huge while, and all... and back in the N64 days, they could be blamed for all but killing 2D. I'm just saying it's too early to decide the revolution controller sucks. It looks comfy from where I'm sitting, but then again, I like the Intellivision and the Colecovision. Once again: Nintendo did innovate and come up with almost every controller feature used today, so I say wait and see. It's crazy enough that it might just work!
Mad haters. I wasn't even dissapointed when I saw the remote, just surprised. After watching the video I'm even more excited. It's funny how people don't want to move around and look "retarded" when playing games. IMO it's stupid to sit there and look mad serious while playing video games. I can't wait to play the Revolution :smt023
Its obvious that it is a TV mouse. Lots of pc games make due with to buttons and a scroll wheel. What nintendo is showing us now is the core unit. I guarantee that a more traditional control add on will be made so third parties can make games for the system. I think the most compelling use for the new control is FPS.
Well the eye toy makes you look retarted this will make retarded if you have to move around and hide behind your own couch and shit. But after i bit this is going to be neat if it works. I am in.
I used to own a few Xavix games. They're sold as stand alone systems with all sorts of unique control designs as well as this XavixPORT thing and it was only ever the stand-alone ones I had. I'd say that the stand-alone games are a much better deal since they're only slightly more expensive that the XavixPORT titles (sometimes cheaper) and you don't have to shell out for the base system itself, plus there's a lot more selection when it comes to stand-alone Xavix games. Most of the Xavix stand-alone games sold in the US were shitty versions, though, so you should try to track down the Japanese ones. The Japanese Boxing one is really great. Tennis is also a lot of fun. Taiko de Popira is a pretty good drumming rhythm game. One that I always wanted to try, but never could get ahold of was a crazy looking pinball-based one. There's also Xavix games based on Dragon Quest (didn't look very good), Choro-Q (did look pretty cool) and some other Japanese franchises. In the US, there's a Xavix system with a Star Wars license. It looks sort of interesting. The Xavix stuff isn't for everybody, but I htink it's pretty cool. I wrote a pretty extensive article on the systems (before the XavixPORT came out) that was supposed to be put up on a certain online gaming site, but that never happened. ...word is bondage...
Yeah, I played with one at E3 this year (well, it may not have been Xavix brand, but it was the same thing), it was a tennis one, and I thought it was pretty nifty. Watching that Revolution video of all the people playing with the controller made me think of a combination Xavix and one of those weird gyration mice like this : http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3066869 If the Revolution controller were all there was, and they weren't going to put out the expansion thing for it that would allow you to play the back catalog (you obviously can't play N64 with the Revolution controller or the GCN controller) and cross-platform games, I would be upset, but this will farther ensure that I buy the Revolution alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Imagine sega getting their shit together & making a proper NiGHTS game for the revolution. Not that half assed sega superstars minigame on eyetoy. Twisting & turning your hand in mid air watching nights gracefully loop & fly perfectly in synchronization with every movement. The posibillities are endless...... COME ON SEGA PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE (^_^) When i first saw the controller i was like WTF but its growing on me, im glad nintendo have had the balls to take the risk & try somthing new. After 24 years gaming im looking forward to trying somthing radically different.
Just think you don't have remember stupid combos for fighting games... You can move your sword and hit.. Good god the things you can do.
Nintendo systems have been traditionally homebrew friendly, correct? I can't wait to see the homebrew community for the Rev.
You have pretty much summarised my opinion here. I'm not sure it'll be the next step of gaming or something we'll just laugh about eight years from now when we get the PS4 or the Xbox 15680 - but I'm not going to miss it. I can't wait to try it. I didn't miss the Virtual Boy when I was 14 either. I tried it, didn't find it worth 199 dollars, then bought it for 35, ten years later. Who knows what the revolution has in store.
Erm no? Apart from the DS i cant think of any nintendo system that had any homebrew following. Maybe the gameboy might have something.
