Everyone draws a line at playability. As collectors, at what point
    do you draw the line?

The criteria: It must be a system that you regularly use.
Turning it on once, and playing it for an hour doesn't count.
This is about current, regular use.

After much thinking, the oldest system I use consistently in the last year is a
    hacked xbox.

I'm more of a SNES guy, so that's where my line is drawn. I could play Contra III, Harvest Moon, or any of my other games for hours.

I can play FFVI and Stunt Race FX for the Super Nintendo all day. I spend more time playing and deving games for the N64 though.

Depends what you mean by regularly. I probably play the Magnavox Odyssey (ye olde first console circa 1972) for maybe (works it out...) 5 minutes a day over the course of a year.

However because I travel I normally only play consoles I can take with me so that boils it down to the Gameboy (Which would technically be Famicom / MS / MSX range) and the PS3 (cause I can play PS3, PS2 and PS1 games).

I voted for the SMS, it's my fav system and gets at least 2 hours play most days. I'm also a fan of the 2600 but it hardly gets a look in at the minute.

On a daily basis, the only pure gaming machines I use the most would be my modded Xbox and PSP... I do play with my C-64 on a frequent basis, but it wasn't on the list... (Even though most people considering it just a gaming machine. :) )

well it's by era, you know when c64 came from, so use that as a guideline.

I don't have the patience to list every system per era lol

    Sega CD.
Popful Mail, Earthworm Jim Special Edition, Heart of the Alien, Sonic CD, Secret of Monkey Island.... all agmes I will play through as completely as possible as soon as I get a front-loading Sega CD. So I guess that counts. It'll have regular use as soon as I get the system (already have the above mentioned games)

Good thread and a theme close to my heart. NES gen vote for me.

Started off with an Electron, had lots of fun with it. But it was the NES, SMS era that made me a gamer for life, no doubt about it. I'm so glad to have gamed through that era and beyond. Hence when I 'became' a collector that was the earliest gen I went to (and will go to). That said I never play NES or SMS now (or collect them bar a few essentials), but the Pce gets much love.

Probably the SNES/ Neogeo/ Genesis era. Thats the only one I play regularly (old system wise), though I go through periods where I bust out the 2600 or NES. NeoGeo keeps it fresh for me at this point

i play the N64 / Playstation / Saturn era more than any other.

I do love my playstation a lot and i tend to spend most of my time on that although i used to regularly play n64 when i had but i don't now

As for the saturn i have been meaning to get one for a while now, i had a chance to get one last year but misscommunication lost me it and i've just not tried to get one since although i will someday soon

Current most played consoles in order of hrs per week (estimate):

    1. Xbox
    2. Dreamcast
    3. PS2
    4. N64
    5. GameCube

Flucuates periodically with mood and the arrival of new games.

I voted for Dreamcast, it is the oldest one I play most. My favorite time was with the NES and Super Nintendo though and they are my favorite consoles.

My favorite modern one though is Nintendo DS, just great it is. (^_^)

Sounds a bit like me as I too play Neo/MVS on an almost daily basis and do break out the 2600 on a pretty regular basis [ every few months for several hours ].

PSX gets alot of play for its retro emu's but I play the Neo more.

I still play my NES on a semi-regular basis and still consider it very much playable.

*note, by semi-regular I mean two or three times a week. So it's not like I only play it once a month or anything.

I've gone for the 16bit age. I play Master System and Famicom sometimes but not enough to eclipse Mega Drive, SFC or PC Engine.

I play my Famicom all the time, not because I make myself play the games, but because they're all so fun!

I really didn't know which one to pick, like I regularly use a NES emu on the PSX (I'm not really confortable playing console games on the PC, nothing can beat a console for it). Anyway, like the most of console gaming I use is emulated (keeping a console collection alive here demands tons of money) I decided to use the computer with a PSX joystick I adapted for it on my TV. It's almost like the real gaming (PSX controller fits really comfortable for the controllers of a lot of consoles), but it takes about 10 min to plug everything to put it to work:banghead:.
Of course I'd like to use the real system, but myu priority ATM is getting a decent portable system (I have 2 hours of free time on a bus everyday, going and returning from college).
