I don't know about placement of chip, never had a problem myself. Cr4 is rock solid. Like mentioned, the cpu_rst wire needs to be as short as is possible, other than that it should boot quickly with minimal tuning.

Reading of the nand can be done in several ways relevant to ur situation. Using a Lpt cable (cheapest but worst), a pic based nand flasher (better), jr-programmer (best). As for Qsb's, unless they come bundled with the cr4, I wouldn't worry, if your soldering is good then it will have no effect on boot time.

Ps rjtag is the quickest boot method but requires a couple more wires and 2 diodes. I use rgh for just dvd key retrieval but rjtag in permanent installs.

That's true. They're a bit simpler than a chip, so they shouldn't be DOA that often. Plus, I suspect that placing a special order just for the QSBs at a store will probably cost more in shipping than their actual value. I think I'll give aliexpress a shot and probably get the programmer from there while I'm at it. Probably best to get the actual CR4 XL from ozmodchips though. But I'm not entirely sue what I should be getting, I've done a search for QSB on aliexpress and I'm getting a few different options:
    http://www.aliexpress.com/af/qsb.ht...n&initiative_id=QRW_20150909053724&isViewCP=y

    Which do I need?

Is this JR programmer a good choice?
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-....iAxN1v&ws_ab_test=201407_3,201444_5,201409_4

So if rjtag is the faster booting method, that's what I'd want!

With regards to HDD hacking, this guide (http://null-byte.wonderhowto.com/ho...e-xbox-360-get-10x-gb-for-your-money-0132294/) says you can install a HDD larger than what your original drive used. From the looks of things though, 350GB is a maximum size? I thought the 360 supported up to a 500GB drive?

You should check out the X360ACE, insanely cheap, and just as good as the CR4XL :)
I haven't tried one myself though, but the reviews are great.

The original 360 came with a HDD with a maximum size of 320gb. An unmodified console will support only up to 320gb because of the way the firmware works on the 360. You can use a compatible 500gb drive, but the max firmware available will only use 320gb.
Getting more than 320gb from your internal HDD for a stock Xbox 360 is not possible.

I agree. I have an old ACE V1 myself and it usually instaboots.
You should get the ACE V2 or V3. They are the same thing and a little better than the original V1.

Even though the S model supports 500GB? The phat model is stuck at 320GB? Internet seems to indicate you can 500GB on a phat model...
    http://team-xecuter.com/forums/threads/63922-XECUTER-X360USB-PRO-HDD-HACKER-Step-by-Step-Guide
Speaking of that thread, they seem to say you need an accessory to connect the drive to your PC to do what their guide says. But it's just a normal SATA drive, can I just connect it normally?

Whew, getting a few choices for chips here. I don't so much mind the $30 or so the CR4 XL costs if it's the most reliable and consistent one.

The X360ACE goes for around 2 dollars ( Yes, 2 dollars ). It has a great reputation.
So can't see why it isn't worth investigating :)

Seriously!? I kinda wonder how good it is for that price...

I have a (hacked) 500GB drive on my phat 360, and it works fine. For a long time, 320GB was the largest security sector you could get, so that was the largest drive you could use, but once they released an official 500GB drive, you could just use the security data off that.

You can just plug the drive directly into your PC, but it might not work - simply because HDD Hackr is a bit touchy about what controllers it works with.

Oh, yes. The firmware for 500gb drives was released somewhat recently. Most sites haven't updated their info to include the file for 500gb drives.

And yes, if you set up the ACE correctly, it's a fantastic chip.

I understand, I was sceptical at first as well :D
But you just had "proarturs" recommending it.
And I've seen people installing, and using it on Youtube, and it seems to run great.
Remember, "all" the chip does, is reset glitching the console when booting, once booted the chip does nothing :)

Cool! I've found a bunch of cheap used WD HDDs that are compatible, sounds like it's worth a shot! I think I'll need to get a new enclosure though, since my current one says "60GB HDD" which won't match when I install a 500GB :p I've got my desktop, laptop and HTPC, surely one of these will work! When you say "a bit touchy" does that mean the program won't detect the drive or something?

*EDIT* Seems like this version supports USB! That should eliminate any chipset issues, right?

Oh, if I'm gonna get the same boot times as a CR4 XL, then it sounds like it would be worth getting then! Same story as the CR4 XL? Best to get the QSBs?

We might need proarturs in on this, but as far as I know the X360ACE needs to be programmed to the correct motherboard, JR Runner can do it when using a JR programmer. You don't need to use QSB's to dump the Nand, but if you think you are gonna dump and rewrite it many times that is recommended. However once the 360 is glitched, you can do it through homebrew. Maybe it's me, but I have never understood the purposes of purchasing those QSB's? Last time I dumped a 360 Nand, I used a very cheap Matrix Programmer, and that worked just fine :)

Once you have a rgh or rjtag system and install one of the hacked dashboards you can use any size hdd whether usb or internal. The whole point of doing the hack is to unlock the restrictions on the system and especially the restriction on the hdd.

Hmmmm, the CR4 XL is sounding a bit simpler, I don't think you need to worry about what programming it to match your motherboard is, you just install it.

For the QSBs, isn't their purpose to cut down on boot times?

Hmmm, there's still the problem that you can't use a jtag hacked HDD on a non-modded 360. I'm not sure when I might need to use my HDD on a non-modded 360 (maybe if I want to use it on a friend's system?) but 500GB should be enough for game saves and XBLA titles. So I might as well go the semi-official route.

Either it doesn't detect the drive or it detects it but hangs when trying to talk to it. Intel chipsets seem to work, as do SIS ones, but some others give problems. I suspect that USB version with only work with the USB interface that TX make, simply because you have to send the drive vendor unique commands that a regular USB<->SATA bridge doesn't know about.

One of the nice things about the x360ace is that the original is so cheap nobody bothers to try and clone it. I can't say much about the chip - I've only ever installed 2 of them, and they worked fine (both in troublesome Coronas) - I did notice that the board had a 150MHz xtal on it, so presumably it has finer timing resolution than the CR3.

Cr4 is very easy to install, hence the price. I've not had any experience with other glitch chips as Tx chips are great quality and hassle free. There are knowledgeable people on the x360 team so I've no doubt that their stuff has its merits.

For $9, I have my doubts about the legitamacy of the jrprogrammer on aliexpress. If u are only doing one install then a simple usb spi programmer like the matrix programmer will suffice. U will need to use nand pro 2e for reading/writing as Tx designed jrunner to only communicate with jr-programmer and nand x ( u can still use Jrunner to create xell and freeboot).

Qsb's do nothing more than provide a pcb version of wired connections on the mobo. It is the positioning and length of the cpu-rst wire that affects boot time along with switch selection. The cpu-rst signal is sensitive so the least resistance the better. If u decide to use qsb, u will need the nand x qsb v3 (phat), and the jtag qsb (if using rjtag).

I've heard of people using 2TB hdd without issue but beyond that became unstable. If using a western digital hdd with relevant hss file still be careful when using it on a stock box as your profile gets flagged with homebrew info and achievements.

Damn, you need a special accessory for USB? Well, the chipset on my desktop is Intel-based, so hopefully it will work. If not, there's always the option of USB.

Ah, so the speed of the processor on the chip can effect it's performance? All I can find on the CR4 is that it's 4x faster, any idea how it compares to the x360ace?

Hmmm, so I should get this programmer instead?
    http://m.aliexpress.com/item/323351...335164655&tracelog=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail

Hmm, if I can't get a hold of the QSBs, it probably will be okay so long as the cpu reset wire is good. I hear loads of shielding is a good idea?

Yeah, it has a big effect - this is a glitch, and the more accurately you can generate the reset pulse at the right time, the better the results are. From the photos, it's using the same 150Mhz master clock as the x360ace is - which would make sense, since that's just under the 152MHz maximum clock you can use on the (cheaper) -7 version of the CoolRunner II. The original RGH used the 48MHz standby clock on the 360 mainboard, so it looks like it's "3 and a bit" times faster rather than 4x.

If it's using the same speed master clock,
It really doesn't sound like the x360ace is any different from the CR4 aside from a simpler install. It sounds like it's not worth the extra cost, but could there be any other reason I should opt for the more expensive CR4?

You can use the Matrix Nand programmer (The one you linked earlier) and the CR4, and it will work. I have done that myself once.
But you could also buy the cheap (and awesome) X360ACE, and a programmer that costs a little more, and still save some money.
I have actually heard that the clone chips, perform just as good as the originals, can't say if that is the case with the programmers too though.
    To sum up:
CR4: Expensive, but works with almost every nand reader/writer.
X360Ace: Very cheap, needs a good nand reader/writer, to put timing codes on.

Do you know what motherboard and revision you have? :)
